how to cheekily upgrade to business class at airport???

hiya ladies im aware this may sound stupid lol but me and H2B were saying how much the flight there would be even better if we were able to be upgraded to business class for free!! hehe
we're hoping that if we mention its our honeymoon etc that we will somehow get a free upgrade lol
does this ever happen or are we kidding ourselves!

I don't know about newly weds upgrading - but my grandparents get upgraded everywhere they go when they say it is their anniversary. I am not sure if this comes with age as they have now been married for 65 years.

I would think it is important to look the part. If you dress up you are more likely to be upgraded...yes this sounds snobby but I have seen it on Airline (so it must be true!).

They would want to upgrade those who are not going to be a disturbance or any trouble.

But that is as far as I can go as I am not yet married (so not yet on honeymoon) and will try the above when it is my turn.

I hope we get some good replies to this post as I would love to know more myself!

Know someone who works for the airline- my friend works at BA and she has got friends and herself upgraded to club class or business flat beds on flights over the atlantic! I have read a lot about this and think it is harder than you think. If you are on a typical honeymoon destination flight it is unlikely as half the flight will be on honeymoon and have tried asking too! Also you are less likely to get upgraded if you are travelling with others- single travellers are more likely to get upgraded. Look on the site below, its has all the tricks on and gives the lists for each airline showing the order people get upgraded. If anything join the airline frequent flyer club as you will be more likely to be upgraded than someone who isnt in the club (even if you havent flown with them before). Higher level frequent flyers get upgraded before lower level club members too.

I think it depends on the airline...........I work for an airline and they dont just upgrade people for the sake of it. I think if you look smart then you are more likely to get taken seriously if you ask though. It costs £3k+ to travel business class return - they aren't just going to give it away!

There is no harm in asking though. And if no luck, tell the crew on board that its your honeymoon and they will more than likely you get a glass of bubbles

Me and ex got upgraded before simply by having discreet word with air stewardesses and saying how scared he was of flying...long shot but you never know x

Frequent flyers tend to be upgraded before anyone else and they earn points to enable them to upgrade more easily. Because of this not may airlines offer upgrades on a whim these days (it cheapens it for those that have paid full price).

Some airlines do offer same day paid for upgrades which are much, much cheaper than pre-booked business class seats but obviously they're only available if there's space. We sometimes do this for trans-Atlantic flights, book economy return flights, fly out economy (it's daytime) and then pay the $500 upgrade at check-in for the return flight (when you need to sleep).

TBH - I dont think you've got a chance in hell if you are not a frequent flyer from what I've read about this, especially if you're going to somewhere like the Maldives where most of the plane will be on their honeymoon. It doesn't hurt to ask but I don't know anyone who has ever been successful. Have a look at the Money Saving Expert website if you still want ideas though.

im genuinely afraid of flying and im always extremely grateful when im allowed to sit in the front, its so much quieter there and i dont have to see as much of the aircraft. i purposely reserve seats when i fly to make sure im at the very front of economy class. unfortunately 90% of the time my seat reservations get erased and i end up somewhere in the middle. sometimes i am lucky and there is room in business class, although i have only ever asked one time specifically to upgrade, the other times it was offered to me. please dont abuse this one to get an upgrade, it can make a huge difference to those of us who are actually afraid of flying.

ps: we went to the maldives on honeymoon and we didnt get upgraded on either flight. it was fine though.

good luck.... we watched a couple in front of us try and get an upgrade... it was a definate no!!! We were also going to try it but after witnessing the other couple decided to stay quiet.....

Probably worth a shot, but these days you hardly even get to speak to a 'check in person' as they have computer check in points in the airports that they prefer you to use. The last few times I've flown anywhere this has been the case.

HI there i work as a senior on board a Scheduled airline, and we dont upgrade for fear of flying( simply look after them), Nor Honeymooners, we have loads, (do get champers and amenity packs thou if we have left) and these days just by asking and dressing up you have to be extremely lucky, work for the company or Know the captain( and that doesnt even work anymore on My airline), so I would maybe see how much it is to pay to upgrade ,its well worth the money for the Experience and lovely wines, champagnes and food!!! Sorry, still worth asking but just so you dont get your hopes up too high!! xxx
