Please help!!! Need bridesmaid advice!

Hi all,
I'm getting married next March and when I told my mum I was going to have my 2 best friends as bridesmaids she got upset (and quite angry!!) because she thinks i should have my 2 sisters.
I love my sisters to bits but not particularly close to them and we are having a small wedding so I only want couple of bridesmaids, what do i do.....?!!

Thinking of just not having any b.maids to save the hassle!! xx

Can you ask your sisters to do a reading or something? That way they'll still be involved in the wedding but you'll have the bridesmaids you want xx

I have the same!! My sister had previously said that she didn't want to be BM (as she didn't have any at her wedding). But then Mum asked me the other day if I had explained to my sister why I hadn't chosen her!!!

I wasn't BM at my sisters weding but we lweren't very close then, I wasn't offended infact I was relieved!!! She is my BM as we have become a lot closer over the years, I think its entirey up to you!!!

My sister would be horrified if I asked her to be a bridesmaid!!

I'm not having any.

I had the same scenario where my mum assumed i would have my 2 sisters who i love dearly however i also wanted my 2 closest freinds. I wasn't sure about having 4 bridesmaids but wanted to keep everyone happy so went for sisters and friends. I am really glad i did and can't wait to get ready with them all in the morning, Its a personal decision though and entirely up to you. x

I'm trying to keep BM numbers down as we're also having a small wedding. Ultimately, you need to decide who YOU want there in the morning helping you get ready, this is how I made my decision. Do you know if your sisters would even want to be BMs? Seems your mum may be getting herself upset on their behalf, when they may be relieved to have not been asked! Good luck with it all xx

at the end of the day its your wedding and if you want your 2 good friends as BMs then thats your choice. i think that just coz theyre your sisters you shouldnt feel the need to ask them. im really close to my sister and am having her but if we werent close then i doubt id ask her.

Do you think your sisters will be really upset by this? They might not actually want to be bridesmades. As petis_pois says, mothers often get upset on other people's behalves!

The only way you will know what the situation is, is to talk to them about. Maybe explain that they will still play a big part in the wedding (thats if you want them to be) - and maybe suggesting something for them to be incharge of, if they start getting upset.

I was very surprised to find out that one of my sisters didnt want to be maid of honour as she couldnt be bothered!

Thing is I think my sisters would like to be b.maids, if i asked them im sure they would say yes- which makes me feel even more mean!
Trouble is my older one is lovely but quite attention seeking to put it nicely!! and my younger one is sometimes bit of a moody teenager and i just feel my friends would be better at being my bridesmaids because i see them more and they probably know me better.

My mum says that as my younger sister wasnt BM for my brothers wedding she should be mine..... just want to keep everyone happy but also want to do it my way too....aghhh!!!

Maybe i could meet in the middle and have my little sis as a b.maid too and ask older sis to be one of the witnesses?? xxx

have your sisters do the guest book or readings or handing envelopes with tissues out or confetti or anything you like lol
i am having my 3closest friends & a sister in law (the other is sulking but its tough luck) i am having people i want around me on the morning to help me get ready

Do what you want hun, if you're not close to your sisters, then don't ask them. You want people you are close to. Weddings are a stressful time, and if you already don't get on with your sisters amazingly well, being bm's could make it worse! I would ask your sisters how they feel, and ask them if they would like to do a reading or something. Good luck x

Ok- went today with my mum & 2sisters to show them the dress I am getting and it was actually really nice having them there with me- so I think I have decided I am going to have sisters plus my 2 friends as my b.maids!!!

Like mrsmoore2b said it it will be nice to have them all there on the morning of the wedding and plus it keeps everyone happy!!
