Subject: Please tell me which dress you prefer?
Hi i would appreciate peoples opinions:
dress no.1:
from coast, cream (which is apparently ok cos i have red hair), knee-length and fitted or

dress no. 2:
from monsoon, ivory i think but with wierd draping of top layer that would need altering (i've pulled it too one side in photo)

sorry i posted this already in alternative weddings but i need more peoples thoughts, i have no sisters and my mum is not into dresses! we will be having budget informal wedding so both would be ok i think.

thankyou x x

Dress no.2! It's a flattering style on you and the embellishments make it special, you might be able to find a local seamstress to make to alterations for you?

Dress 1 is nice too but I think the second one is more special

yeh i suppose i do feel more like a bride in the 2nd one!
Other problem is h2b is same height as me so i would prefer to wear flat shoes which i could with 2nd but not with 1st.
Also quite liked this dress:

I have tried the long one on about 3 times now! i don't know why monsoon had to ruin it with such wierd draping - see how it looks really bad when i don't pull it to one side:

Such a shame as I really love the top half, how easy do people think it would be to alter? Its only the top layer of sheer fabric that is draped.

Honestly i dont think the dress could be altered enough. you have such a lovely figure it doesnt do it justice! do you like this one? its a little bit more informal wedding dress?

thank you mrs meme i do like the one you posted, may have to go try that one on too

My h2b's aunt has offered to make me a dress so that's also a possibility (she made the dress of h2b's sister), it's just that I would feel bad her spending loads of time making me a dress if we're only having a small cheap wedding (dose that makes sense?).

What makes me laugh is on website of monsoon it says that dress has "flattering draped skirt detail", hmmm it just looks like a sack on me - not at all flattering!

Hiya Lovepigeon
It's still your wedding day, so you should still have a fab dress that makes you feel amazing!
If you trust your h2b's aunt has a good eye and would make you something that would suit you and that you want, then that's great!

I can understand that, with the monsoon dress, if a girl were more 'hippy' (such as myself!) it would be more flattering!

Hi Lovepidgeon,
Have you looked in Debenhams? they have some pretty dresses too that may be more flattering to your figure and also let you wear flats.

EIRice2b is right that although you may be having a smaller budget wedding does not mean that you should settle! Seriously you could pull of a lovely dress! the 2nd one that bonogirl posted is lovely too. when is the wedding? x

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'm going to search a bit more as I think I would be settling otherwise. Do bridal shops stock cheaper (<£500) dresses too? Ive been too scared to go in any yet as I had assumed they would be all really expensive. We had been planning (but not yet booked) for wedding in may 2011 but are considering doing it earlier so my grandad could definitely be there. I'll keep you all updated if I do manage to find a dress (or need opinions on more possible dresses), I think I'd like either sheath shape - idk if that's the right name but when its kind of straight up and down and with a sweetheart or halterneck top, or alternatively a short dress. So I guess at least I have an idea of what I'd like
When I've got time I'll head up to debenhams and bhs and try on some of their dresses.

i think the 2nd one is nicer, but lots of shops sell samples at cheap prices, there are also lots of online shops if you google 'bridal sample'. Good luck!

I managed to get my wedding dress in a bridal shop sale for 200 pounds, pincluding veil.
Just because you are on a budget doesn't mean you have to give up on your dream dress.
Have a look at my other topics if u wan5 to see mine.

I was initially looking at high street dresses but my mum booked me an appointment at a bridal shop. I went along thinking that I would just have a bit of fun trying on dresses (which I probably couldn't afford) as I'd only get this opportunity once, so why not! But I'm so glad I went. I got my dream dress at £300. I'm not a dress person but so glad I went to the shop.

You could always phone up shops to ask what thier price range is? Little known to me, that's what my mum had done and so pleased. It meant the lady in the shop didn't pull out anything over £800.

Good luck in your search! x x
