Maui is more expensive but utterly Beautiful, try the big island there is a live volcano we went to see there, life wasn't as busy, Oahu and Waikiki are like a american concrete jungle. wasn't as keen on the island although it was the cheapest.

Not all of Oahu is like Waikiki though, we are staying just outside at the Kahala:

Which is in a quieter affluent suburb or there is Turtle Bay on the North Shore. Think it depends on what you want to do, see and how many flights you want to take x

Not all of it buit its either concrete jungle or down town gettos, the bottom of the island past the sea life park is nice but its so remote and so far away from everything

Whatever island you stay on i would advise spending $175 on a day trip to fly over and tour around the big island and live volcano, it was amazing

If you stay in maui then visit the waterfalls they are breathtaking. the journey there is great fun too. this is where h2b proposed at the the top of a 200tf waterfall

We paid £550 to go to Oahu then bought internal flight which were about 50-60 returm.

Dial a flight we booked with check them out they seemed to have the best deal, we booked about 8 months in advanced as the prices do go up but check it out

Well I think some people enjoy a bit of the "concrete jungle" I do, that's why I'm going to Vegas and New York too. If I worried about "the ghetto" I wouldn't get far in these cities! If you don't like the city that's fair enough, shame some people have to tar an island with one brush and not all urban is bad. Am sure most places have "a ghetto" if you go looking for it. Doubt many people do- many people who have accommodation in resorts tend to stay in them and people not brave enough to drive abroad, visit tourist attractions. Some of the most beautiful places have poverty- it's just hidden better. I think all the girls on here will appreciate less of a black and white/ negative picture being painted of their honeymoon destination- but hey that's just my opinion. I will probably spend my Hawaii honeymoon in my hotel grounds and beach, visiting Pearl Harbour, the Polyenisian Cultural Centre, doing a tour of the Lost locations, hiking up Diamond Head for the views over "the concrete jungle", going to bars and restaurants, going to the Valley of the Temples, maybe a helicopter ride or visit to another island. There are plenty if things to do on all the islands, I think it's up to individual's own preferences- nature or urban, hotels or apartments. Janelle is a useful contributer on this site- she lived and worked in Waikiki- and survived, dont think she lived in the ghetto though- perhaps private message her or check out her threads for advice Emma-Lou3 x
