I've sent mine off today - getting married on 6 June and have booked honeymoon as Mrs S. When my boss at work countersigned the form and photos, she countersigned in my maiden name. I was a bit concerned about this so called the passport office, who said it will be ok if I write in the notes section that it's been countersigned as my maiden name. The post office queried it today but filled in maiden name/surname. Fingers crossed it all comes back ok. Got to wait for 2 weeks now and I know I'll worry until it's back safe and sound.

When you go on honeymoon do you travel in your maiden or married name? Can you apply for a passport in your married name before you are actually married?

Thanks

You can apply for your passport to be changed ahead of your wedding but once its been issued in your new name, you cant use it until you're married so no holibags abroad until then! You can travel under either your maiden name or married name but your passport will have to match the booking.

I looked into this the other day... I've got 4 years left on my passport, but obviously want it to be in my married name before we go on honeymoon! The passport office will credit your new passport with up to 9 months extra, to compensate for any time left on your old one... what a rip-off! Essentially, you just have to buy a new one, or put up with travelling in your maiden name! Grrrrr!
