Just to let anyone going to the Maldives know when we last went in 2009 they cut off our padlocks on the way out and we had none to lock our suitcase with on the way back as you can't buy them there! We had TSA padlocks.

Why was that then? We didnt have that happen to us and we only flew out there 3 months ago

they do random luggage searches. it happened to us going to the states about 3 years ago. you can buy special locks though, i know samsonite has them, airport security have master keys so they can take your lock off for a search and then replace them without damaging anything.
