i have a platinum engagement ring but cant afford the platinum wedding bands to go with it now the cost of the rest of the wedding is building up fast!! has anyone else put a white gold wedding band alongside there platinum ring or will it not look right??? :\(

I've been told that if you have a platinum e-ring, then you should have a platinum band as well.

The reason being that if you mix the metals, then one will wear down the other. In your case platinum being the harder metal, it will wear down the 18ct gold which is actually pretty soft.

Is there any way you can scale back your plans in order to accomodate the rings? Try looking on the internet -Bands of Gold is quite good, or alternatively try Hatton Garden or the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham might be a good bet.

You can get Platinum plain bands fairly reasonable. Just an idea, some jewellers do interest free credit where you can monthly?

Not only is the issue with the different metals rubbing against each other, i think they will look noticeably different. Platinum is a lot duller than white gold (unless you polish it ever other day) so may look a bit strange together.

Apparently you can have a palladium band with platinum because they are from the same family so will wear the same - palladium is relatively new, but is loads cheaper than platinum.

A friend of mine recommended an internet company called the beautifulcompany she found hers in a shop then got them on this website for half the price. Hers was platinum and when she got them she took them into a shop to make sure they were platinum and they were. Unfortunately i cant use the website as my engagement ring is an odd shape so will need to get one shaped and made specially!

agree with whats been said above - trying the internet is a good idea as is going direct to Hatton Gdn or B'ham Jewelry Qtr. We did this and got my wedding band with diamonds for £750 instead of £1,300 in high street shops.
