Subject: Are Flip Flops a no no?????
Hi really struggling with footwear - found some gorgeous shoes but tried them on next to h2b and we have a major height issue and also my dress really doesn't allow for much of a heel.
I really don't want to be taller than him on the day.
Getting married at the endof July, we are getting married in a hotel so won't be out and about in my footwear. Would love to be barefoot but obviously health and safety wouldn't allow this but also think my trotters need some kind of restraining!!!
So big question is are flip flops acceptable????
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't as I think flip flops are the devil's manky hideous work. *shudders*

What about ballet pumps?

Depends what kind of flip flops you mean. I'd say definitely don't go for the usual casual ones you'd wear for the beach. What about something pretty and dressy like these? Or even a kitten heel?

Personally I wouldn't wear flip flops. There are some lovely flat sandals coming into the shops at the mo ready for summer. What about finding some silver ones. What about something like this?

Or if you do still want a flip flop type sandal what about these Dune ones?

Flip flops are a yes yes. It’s your wedding, not what other people think you’should’ wear. If you’re more comfortable in flip flops go for it – you can get some lovely leather metallic ones rather than those squidgy plastic beach ones obviously. I have a maxidress I wore lots last summer and it looks silly with anything other than my gold flip flops but got lots of compliments and I felt elegant in it as it was so long. If you’ve got a long dress anyway no one sees your shoes so don’t worry about it and go for it – you’ll be comfortable and relaxed and it wouldn’t give you height problems you sound worried about. I love my wedding shoes – they’re peep toes and not too ‘weddingy’ – I really can’t stand those ‘wedding’ shoes with the pointy toes and low heels – way uglier than flip flops. Go for it. Nothing’s a no no.

I agree wholeheartedly with megmegs, I'm not a fan of traditional wedding shoes and if you are more comfortable in flip flops, go for it. Your H2B is marrying you, not a catalogue bride and he will want to see your personality on the day. If flip flops is it, go for it! (I'll have a pair in my bad for later on too;)

MrsTulipBride - them sandals are exactly what i had in mind - sorry flip flops to me. Definitely not thinking plastic beach ones!! Thanks for the advice. One other thing the dress is pink - having white flowers, white pearls and silver tiara - are we all still thinking silver???

Totally agree with Megmegs and Bongogirl - if you feel comfy that way then go for it!

Those are lovely and I think silver works gorgeously with pink and white, plus it will tie in your tiara. x

You'd be top and toed with silver - perfect! Silver totally works with pink and white.

Glad you like the sandals!

If I was getting married in the summer I would be in flip flops, just trying to work out what I should wear in winter.

Nothing against the style of flip flops - just make sure that the ones you choose don't make the flip flop noise!!

I think there are some really pretty flip flops available; I hate bridal shoes too, I chose strappy sandals from schu with a kitten heal. im hopeless at walking in high heels but personally i wouldn't dare wear flip flops for two reasons, I would walk flat footed and wanted to be dainty, plus they would be a killer with a long train and would keep tripping! You perhaps would not have this problem but good to consider. Maybe have a tiny heel but something strapped on?

I personally wouldn't wear flipflops - and I LIVE in flipflops (live in a hot country). They make an annoying flappy sound as they hit back on your heel as you walk. If your venue has wooden or stone flooring this sound would be more pronounced. Because they tend to be looser on your feet you can get an additional clacking noise on the floor.

However you also get this effect with the low kitten heels that only 'attach' to your feet at the toes, in fact this can be worse as the heel 'clicks' more on the floor than a flat sole.

If you can find flipflop sandals (as in, nice wedding suitable ones like above) with a more padded insole/foot base that can reduce the heel flapping noise. A softer rubber sole, rather than leather, can reduce the clacking noise. (nerd alert!)

If it wasn't for the noise I'd definitely get married in flipflops as I love them! I'm going to get some fun ones for the BMs and me for dancing later in the night.

I would say yes to flip flops - I'm a big fan, and have often worn them to balls under big sparkly ball gowns.

Another pretty flat alternative are moroccan slippers - they're cheap, easy to get hold of (try any shop that sells saris) and really pretty with beading and sequins, and since they fit like ballet pumps, no flip-flop noise. You can have any colour you like then! One tip though, if you've never worn them, they don't come in left and right - try them on, designate left and right, and then wear them in. The leather will mould to your feet.

Or have real ballet shoes - I'd fancied doing this, with the ribbons round the ankle and everything, but my dress doesn't allow it (and I've got the opposite problem, h2b is a foot taller than me!)

They cost about £10, come in ivory or pink and can easily be dyed any colour.

I think if you get lovely jewelled ones like some of the ones above they would look gorgeous.

Go for whatever you feel comfortable in
