wedding certificate fee on top of CofE fee?

Hi ladies,

I hope your planning is going well. Yesterday I spoke to one of the reverends connected to the parish/church (CofE church) where I am getting married and he told me that it would cost an extra £85 to sort out the marriage license/wedding certificate (that was how the reverend put it). Has anyone else experienced that?

I wasn't aware of this and therefore I hadn't set money off in the budget for it so am a bit gutted, also as I believe we are paying more than enough for the church. Maybe I seem ungrateful but when the lady at the church office told us the total I thought everything was included in the price. I know you can't set a price on marrying the love of your life but would be nice for it to not cost a fortune in fees :\)

It's hard with CofE as whilst I can't remember all the individual costs - they do mount up when you look through it - cost for bans, cost for certificate (was definitely listed seperately), cost of vicar, cost for choir, cost for organ etc ec - think it came to be about £500 when we got married last year! Was so shocked, I didn't realise a church wedding would be so expensive!! (naive maybe but I didn't!!) lol x

We are currently looking at £600 including the fee for the certificate/license. I guess I was naive as well as the CofE website states that its around 300 or something like that (i have forgotten as it has already surpassed that amount lol) so I didn't think we'd pay more... though c ompared to what we'd pay for a civil ceremony it's still cheaper I believe,

Our Church is £600 but doesn't say about certificate or banns so better check this. The church did a day for people due to get married but we were already in London that day seeing a show so couldn't go. Bet they covered it then
The church does include choir and bells, and the church rooms next door for the toilets, the cost was the same for room in hotel plus registrar but we couldn't fit everyone in there.

Our wedding certificate is priced at £3.50, banns at £22.00... our service is £260.00 choir is £7.00 a head around 8 members, our Organist is £55.00 and clerk £10.00 so £406.50 all together, we are having a lady spend about £100.00 for flowers in the church so everything will come to £506.50...

Woaahh, my mam had a word the priest the other day about prices for the ceremony, and he said well its usually a donation, but we ask for £150 .... However this is a catholic church, dont know if that makes a difference. ? x

The basic ceremony cost is £260, the the reading of the banns, wedding certificate, bell ringers, organ, flowers etc is all extra - we even hasve to pay to have the heating on at our church!!! I don't mind though, as the church does a lot of good work in the local community etc.

It can be a bit of a shock though - my friend payed £500 for all her church bits last year and I think ours will be about the same .
