....when is the most risky time? I thought it was up to 8 weeks but is this taken from last period or date of conception and are abdominal (period type pains) normal in week 4-5??

well some people say its to 12 weeks and some to 20! i am 6 weeks and my doctor reckons the danger is over (i am 23 so he's not concerned).
Can u ask ur doctor/midwife (if u have one yet?)

Yay! Congratulations. Anything up to 12 weeks usually. But I'm afraid that you will worry for the whole 9 months, at every stage you find something new! After you have the first scan you may find that you don't feel pregnant anymore, the symptoms may wear off and you probably won't be showing. Then you have the anomaly scan and you panic that something is wrong and so it goes on...

I'm not trying to be negative but you will find it a much nicer experience if you try to be relaxed and remember that your body has never done this before and everything new will feel strange!

I'm sure everything will be fine, good luck x

The risk does go down in percentage when you reach certain weeks. The highest risk period is between 4 and 6 weeks. Once 8 or 9 weeks are reached and the baby's heart beat is seen on a scan there is only a 4% to 5% chance of miscarriage, depending on the speed of the heart-beat. It should be 120 to 160 times per minute. (BMP) The risk then drops to between 5% and 8% and continues to drop as the pregnancy proceeds.

99% of foetal deaths occur in the first 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancy (1st trimester), although the actual miscarriage may not happen for some weeks after the baby dies. Medically this is called a ‘missed abortion’. (The baby is an “embryo” to the 8th week and a “foetus” after that.)

I waited till my 12 week scan to tell everybody even though id already had 2 scans before this due to bleeding. At one point I wanted to wait till my 20 week scan as the risk of misscarriage is still there but at the end of the day anything could go wrong at anytime. Try and relax as this wont do you or your little one any good. xx

Hi girls,
i got my BFP yesterday and I'm not even 4 weeks yet so I've been worrying ever since. It's lovely to hear I'm not alone. I did the test just before flying to Dubai so I don't think being on a plane for 7 hours helped.
I've been getting niggly pain but mostly on one side - from what I've read before that's normal??? Just worried that it's quite one sided. Any thoughts??

Axx

Thanks for the advice - I guess we just wait to wait and hope!! I cannot get docs appt until next week and then i fly away mid next week- which is worrying me a bit but from what i gather from all the info you cannot do much to prevent mc so suppose just have to relax

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 9+months!!

Congratulations on your bfp x

I was always told that it's when you get into the 2nd trimester it's safe which is after 12 weeks. A lot of people count the scan as the time to tell people as they can physically see there's no problems with the baby.
I will be happy once the 8/9 week is over as i had a mc at 8/9 weeks before so i'm especially worried at mo.

I'm 12weeks +1 and have my first scan tomorrow. I've already had to tell my immediate colleagues at work as I've had the most awful fatigue and have had to start wearing maternity trousers (bit of a give away!) a week or so ago. We told our parents and siblings at 5 weeks, part of me thinks that if something was to go wrong I'd need the support of my family and closest friends at work behind me to see me through it.

As with most things in pregnancy it's a personal choice.

Good luck all! x

Hi
After 12 weeks the risk of mc is reduced considerably, try not to worry about things too much though as it's not good for you.
I first got pregnant in July/Aug last year, we told our parents right away, then I miscarried in October. We valued the support from our parents so we didnt regret telling them, but I agree that it is personal choice. I am now pregnant again, 22 weeks on Saturday yipeee and so far so good! I thought I would be a wreck this time round but I have really tried to be positive and not worry, and I think it has really helped.
Stay positive and a happy 9 months to you hun x
