Hey Ladies
I hope your all doing well! My poor little boy is poorly sick. Hes had a tummy bug for 6 days now and its not getting any better actually its proberly got worse. Now im not a mother who ring the doc all the time i hate docs/hospitals/baby clinic (even though im a nurse lol) there boring places where u have to wait ages to be seen and normally come back with more than you came with not my idea of a fun morning. I have never had to bother my doc with jacks illnesses before as hes never been sick apart from colds which i can manage at home. Jack hasnt kept anything down for 6 days now including water so yesterday i rung as was a bit concerned after all he is only little but he did seem fine and happy playing. Today he is sleepy and clearly not himself, hes had no wet nappy over night and is still refusing fluids. So i rang again today but still noone has called.
Iam so annoyed i feel noone cares and when i do get through i know they wont really be helpful. Yesterday the doc was like "its a bug he'll be better tmw" Er why do you think he'll be better tmw hes been sick for 5 days! Why do they fob people off like that? When i was nursing I didnt have the heart to just fob people off what if something happened to them after? My poor son is dehydrated and needs looking at but i know they wont.
There is no point to this post just wanted to get it all off my chest. I think im tired and exhusted sick babies are very hard work just want to make him better!

Hey sweetie, my advice, for what it's worth... play nurse with him - give him a top-to-toe assessment, imagine you were going to try to cannulate - is he so dehydrated that you wouldn't have a hope or is he in that chubby stage where their veins disappear anyway? Is he really dry - i'd be bothered about his urine output too - keep ringing. Tell them: 'if my son has an overwhelming infection & is now too dehydrated to receive IV fluids i am holding you personally responsible' it's amazing how quickly that gets someone's attention. Do you have a walk-in clinic at all?

Do you have a paeds A&E nearby? If he has no wet nappies, seems floppy and dry I would take him in to see them. You could try starting a bit of an oral fluid challenge yourself whilst you wait. How much does he weigh? try this link for how much every ten minutes he should be drinking. I really think if you are worried you should go and take him to be seem asap. Page 5 in the minimum he should be drinking. Ihttp://www.dvh.nhs.uk/downloads/documents/4WUQ30GVCG_Oral_Rehydration_v2.pdf

Jennie...hun I'm so sorry to hear that little Jack is poorly!! I've no medical advice to give either babe. I would give NHS a call and tell them and take things from there as they will get him seen quicker as well since he a baby, so will prob arrange doctor for home visit or for you attend an out of hours doctor if you can't see your own.
It must be very worrying for you and h2b, so even consider taking him to A&E and hopefully they can put him on a drip to get fluids into him and check him all over for peace of mind.
Please keep us updated hunnii, thinking of you, jack & h2b love to you all!xx

I dunno she was vey nice she said to try and give him some over the next 3 hours (as if i hadnt been trying all day) lol, she was very caring and said they can assess him everyday if needs be so that the moment he needs iv fluids he can go straight there. So at least something is being done now.
I know hun i was also taught to act fast with children but then i only know basics and that was years ago so proberly all changed now!

Good morning Ladies!
Things are much brighter today and after a very stressful day/evening jack looks to be much brighter. At 6pm the doc called and said that if he doesnt wee by 9pm to take him down to a&e, i mangaged to get 3oz of dioralyte into him around 7 and he passed urine about 9ish. This morning he had a slighty wet nappy and although it is very concentrated and has kept down more dioralyte and has had another assesment at the docs. Who think hes over the worse. He seems much brighter although still not drinking much but i hope hes on the mend!
The bad news is now i have it! So H2b is off work running house while i snuggle on the sofa!
Thanks again ladies for all your kind words and suport think it kept me sane and level headed rather than turning in to a stressed panicking mother!

aww hunny so sorry to hear of all the illness.
I was going to suggest dirolyte or even sugar water,
I hope he gets better soon.
As for you try drinking flat FULL RED coke.
It has an acid in that heals the tummy bug.
It can work with kids but also send them hyper!!
I'm not medically trained but have been a nanny for 12 yrs and usually find the coke trick works!!!
Make sure everyone washes hands regularly and beds get changed often -i know it's hard work but the bugs will hang aorund.
really hope your better soon and it's good news that jcak is getting better. Keep him away from anything diary for 48 hrs as this could also upset his tummy again xxx
