Subject: What to have engraved on a vase?
We're getting a Crystal vase each for our mothers as our wedding gifts. I'm completely stuck as to what to have engraved on them. I would like a beautiful short verse or quote rather than just "Thanks for everything".

The only one I have found so far is :

"A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest"

But not totally in love with it, can anyone think of something else?

How about any of these:

“When I stopped seeing my mother with the eyes of a child, I saw the woman who helped me give birth to myself.” -Nancy Friday

“No influence is so powerful as that of the mother.”
-Sarah Josepha Hale

“Mother is the one we count on for the things that matter most of all.”
-Katherine Butler Hathaway

“A mother understands what a child does not say.” -Jewish proverb

“Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.”
-William Makepeace Thackery

“A mother takes twenty years to make a man of her boy, and another woman makes a fool of him in twenty minutes.” -Robert Frost

“All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his.” -Oscar Wilde

I love my mother as the trees love water and sunshine - she helps me grow, prosper, and reach great heights. ~Terri Guillemets

The best conversations with mothers always take place in silence, when only the heart speaks. ~Carrie Latet

I still think I like your original one.

Are you adding your names and date too?

I can't help reading that as "he loves me best" which for your MIL might sting a little lol.

How about something wedding specific, brain not working but...

A special thank you for making our wedding day so special in every way, with love from X and X, date of wedding"

xx

Ooh I'll be keeping a eye on this topic, I was about to post the exact same question! I was thinking of literally just putting our names and wedding date on but I love some of those quotes. Will have to keep thinking!

How about this:

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.

or

Your arms were always open when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson. Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly.

Me again!

Just written my Mums mothers day card (bought it weeks ago) and was really caught by the verse inside:

'For all the days, and all the ways you've been there, thank you so very much'

Lovely and simple so I think I will put this and the wedding date and our names
