As per the topic title- I have three sisters who are all bridesmaids (all adults) will it be possible for one Reading to be split between the three of them by each reading say 4 or 5 lines each?

Is this something that will be a general yes/no answer everywhere or does this kind if thing vary between different registrars?

Also, other than the quick meeting immediately before the ceremony, do we have a formal meeting with the registrar beforehand? We gave notice several months ago & cannot see anything like this in the info pack but just wondered. We shall shortly be sending the firms back to the registrar with chosen vows/ readings etc and wondered if a meeting would normally happen after this? Nit sure about anyone else with a civil ceremony but I feel
like I have no idea what will happen in the ceremony!!

Thanks.xxx

At a wedding I went to last year the mums of the bride and groom shared the reading and it worked very well. I'm sure it would be as long as there was no religious content.

We had a meeting with the registrar the week of the wedding as our council don't like to do it on the day. We went through the final paperwork, gave them our readings, vows etc...

I would just ring them and see what your registrar's office does.

yonyon,

We have been told by our registry office that we dont get to sit down with registrar before hand, we just hand in the paperwork 1 week before and then see them on the day before ceremony. This makes me a little nervous as i have no idea what is going on in the ceremony?? considering how much we pay them you would think they would be more helpful really.

I think that will be lovely and work very well. Alternatively, as I am doing, I have asked a close friend to do a reading as I just wanted my sisters as bridesmaids. x

I think it will be lovely, I have seen it done before with three sisters and it makes it very genuine. With regards the registrar - we posted off our choices and then a few days later got a pack through in the post with a 'script' for the wedding so we know exactly whats going where and even what the registrar is going to say. Its good as I know I will be so excited on the day I will miss it all!

Glad i stumbled on this. I lay awake until half past 2 this morning with everything going round my head of what i still had to do for August. We are renewing our vows so not actually getting married but had a tough year last year and its something we want to do. Anyway, we have 4 daughters who are our BM and i found a great reading for the church and twisted my oldest daughters arm to do it, shes quite shy! But thought last night maybe it would be nice if they all said a couple of lines and take the heat off her lol. If anyone has any suggestions of poetry for mum and dad id love to hear it incase its better than what i have in mind.

Thanks for all your replies. I contacted my registrar and apparently we will have a meeting beforehand- within the next couple of weeks (get married in 5 weeks) so I feel better that I can ask all my questions & not worry about it on the day!!

Cupcake i think your daughter may appreciate sharing the poem if she us shy, I know I would prefer that!! Just talk to her about it she may surprise you and say she wants to do it all hersefl. As for readings/poems i have only ever seen ones about/to parents on their wedding day, rather than vow renewal. If you google poems for parents or similar you may find something there. Good luck.
