Subject: Is anyone else fed up with vintage hair accessories? Help!
Hi everyone,

This is my first post here, and I desperately need some help. It seems everywhere I look, it's all tacky vintage accessories or cheap looking costume jewellery.

I went to the Designer Wedding Show, and saw everything that was there - Halo & Co, Million Design, Magpie Vintage, Yarwood-White. I didn't like any of it, and I was shocked at the prices considering the poor quality of most of it. It all looked like cheap costume jewellery to me, and I couldn't really see anything "designer" about it. Really disappointing, to be honest.

I've been to Luella's Boudoir and Jenny Packham boudoir too. I've even been to Erickson Beamon, and admittedly some of their pieces were a bit nicer, but to be honest I think I'd seen so much "vintage" stuff by that point that I couldn't really see a big difference. I might go back there when my head is a bit clearer, but I'd really like to know if there's anything else I should be looking at.

The dress I want is called Lorna by Bruce Oldfield, it's contemporary with a sort of retro feel, so I think vintage accessories (at least the ones I've seen so far) will look overdone and spoil the dress. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for a beautiful piece of statement hair jewellery, and I think I should be going for something more designer to match the dress - more contemporary I guess - but I just can't find anything I like.

Help!

Hi Jude2011

Have you had a look at the bridal selection on Net a Porter? See:
http://www.net-a-porter.com/intl/boutiques/wedding/list.nap?SelItem=0;1&custom_list=Veils_and_Headpieces

They have a lot more contemporary stuff - its where I got my pendant to go with my wedding dress from, as I too was fairly uninspired by the bridal places offerings. They also have a good returns system so you can try before you buy!

Hope you find something suitable.

Hiya,

Have you tried Caroline Castigliano? I spent about two hours trying on tiaras in her Guildford store. The service was brilliant and the tiaras are stunning...a lot of them veer away from the 'vintage' look too (not that there's anything wrong with it; I went for a vintage side tiara in the end).

Hi Sparkle08, that's an interesting find, I didn't know they had a bridal section. Having a look now.

Keep 'em coming!

Yes you need to give them a buzz beforehand, however I phoned up about 10am on a Saturday and said I just wanted to look at tiaras etc and they said pop down for 11 so it's pretty easy.

Thanks karengentles, I hadn't seen Jo Thorne before. Love her stuff, much more what I'm after. I saw some Stephanie Browne at Luella's Boudoir, it does look lovely on the website but I didn't think it looked quite as nice close up.

Any more?

I also really like some of the pieces on net-a-porter, not sure if I could carry them off, a lot of them are very bold, but there are a couple of really beautiful designs on there. I do like the simplicity of Jo Thorne's stuff though. Love this pearl tiara/headband:

Well, I never thought I'd go from nowhere to actually finding some things to choose between in the space of an hour or so - this was obviously the right place to ask!

Many thanks, and please keep the suggestions coming!
