My fiance is a BBC and we are planning to have tea ceremony incorporated in our day. I will be changing into a traditional Chinese 2 piece red wedding dress but I am not sure what type of shoes would be appropriate to wear. Of course I need a pair of red shoes to match the dress but are there any rules on what shoes are appropriate? Can I wear a slight heel?

Hi Moonly...

I am BBC and I am also incorporating the tea ceremony into our day! I am just wearing a qipao so one piece traditional chinese dress....I have just got some simple red peep toe shoes to match the dress...I am not sure if you need it to be anything special/traditional - I think you would be able to wear shoes which have a slight heel...

Hope this helps!

When do you get married and where you getting married?

Hi Mollybride ,
thank you for the tip - I will post something in that thread.

Hi Sam2801,
Thank you very much - I would not want to wear anything that may appear inappropriate . Getting married on 6th August in Bournemouth. What about you?

Hi Moonly.

If your wearing a Kwa (two piece - jacket and long skirt) you may want to wear a pair of traditional Chinese red, emroidered pumps.
I wore a Kwa for my wedding last July and pumps were the ones I chose to wear.
I have seen brides in red heels with them also but do bear in mind as skirt are tight/ no slits... your walk may be slightly restricted.
If you're also doing the tea ceremony and you're wearing your chinese dress also, do bear in mind when getting up and down when giving tea.

Heels always suit qipao/ cheongsam better but I think its personal preference.

Hi Sam,

Aww, you have just over 3 months to go now - how exciting! Your venue sounds lovely. I love the idea of a fusion wedding - that is what we are having as well. I am originally from Poland and my fiance is a BBC so we are going for a fusion wedding: Polish and Chinese in a country style English venue.
Have you decided on your order of the day yet cos you are incorporating the TC into the day? At which point during the day are you going to have the tea ceremony?

Hi Carms,

Thank you very much for the tip about kneeling and getting up- I think I will def get a pair of pumps now - you have convinced me ! . Yes, I will be wearing a Kwa and the skirt looks pretty tight. Would you know where I can get the pumps from? I would love them to be embroided.

Hi Moonly,

Yes very excited - its exactly 100 days till I get married...cant wait!!! Yes, I love the fact that we are able to have fusion weddings and make it different & unique!!!

Yes, I am having the tea ceremony after the photographs as I want to have all the photos in my white dress first before I change into my qipao for the tea ceremony...(in case I mess my hair up and plus get the best light for the photographs!) and then I will change back into white dress after tea ceremony for the wedding breakfast...when were you thinking of having the tea ceremony?

Moonly ... speaking from experience is always best!
I'm off to HK in a few weeks so I can try and help you get a pair if you wish. Just send me an email asap as I dont know how often I will get to check my emails when over there! when do you get married?

I dont believe you can get the ones you may want in UK (or try China Town in London) and as I know how hard it is to get certain items for you big day, I dont mind helping! Its entirely up to you as I understand its a bit of a strange offer from a stranger!
Although Sam will tell you I am always happy to help! xox

Hi Carms,

Sorry I have not replied earlier.
Aww, that is so so sweet of you, thank you !!!

Hope you have a great time in HK, I would love to go there – I have never been… Planning to go with my H2B next year.
Of course I will give you my e-mail address but I really would not want to trouble you with this, I would feel really bad if you were to hunt around HK for a pair of pumps.
Are they easy to come by in HK? Would you know how much they may cost over there? I am UK size 4 and you can e-mail me on: mkwiatek@bournemouth.ac.uk
I am getting married on Aug 06th this year.
I will be China Town on Saturday so will have a good look round the shops there.

Sam,

So you have began your big 100 days to go countdown !!! It is amazing how the time is flying now!
We are not actually sure when to have the tea ceremony. Could do it after the photos and before the wedding breakfast – like you – then I guess we would still have ‘everyone’s attention’. What worries me a little is that the guests may be feeling hungry by the time the photos are done. We are having canapés for them but from what I remember these will be served on guests’ arrival to the venue. We are getting married at 1:00. What time are you getting married? I am not sure ( I can’t remember) how long the tea ceremony may take… We are allowing half an hour to 45 minutes for the whole ceremony. Are you having yours outside or indoors?
Another option we considered was to have it after the wedding breakfast when the rest of the guests who are not participating are still seated and perhaps having their teas and coffees. I would disappear upstairs to change into the Chinese dress, have the tea ceremony and then change back into white dress. But is that not going to be a bit too late?

I have arranged with my hairdresser to come out to the hotel in the afternoon to retouch on my hair after the tea ceremony. My salon does this special bridal package and the afternoon touch up is included in price. You could try to negotiate with yours and that way you don’t have to worry about your hair.
