We are looking for luxury on a modest budget. We have 2k to spend (excluding food). I love the beach and my other half likes something to do - sightseeing, watersports, etc.

We also like somewhere relatively tourist free.

I would love somewhere romantic like the maldives but know this is outside our price range.

Do you have any ideas? I am toying with the Cape verde islands but know nothing about them! Or Sri Lanka but am worried about safety. Can you help?!

Sri Lanka would be within budget and is perfectly safe (it was even when the war was going on, but that's over now).

Hi there - I'd love to go to Japan after our July 2011 wedding, but h2b not amazingly keen on the weird food (pah!). He's more interested in the Rugby World Cub in NZ that year. Any ideas for destinations that will be a compromise? I'm into culture, cities and maybe a bit of beach living, he's into relaxing and sport!

Many thanks!

That's good to hear! I think my friends and family have been worrying me!!

Can you suggest anywhere in Sri Lanka that will give us romance, and a local feel?

Hi Alex,

My h2b and I are getting married on 1st September this year in Dominican Republic. We have booked a 5 night honeymoon to Las Vegas (Mon to Fri, fly home on the Sat) and are staying in the Bellagio. Can you recommend how much we should take and what we should definately see whilst there?

Thanks

Hi Alex - H2B and I get married in late September. We want a cheap break just after the wedding and then talking about a proper honeymoon in Vietnam and Cambodia the following Spring (2010). My question is where should be go in late September for a mini break thats still exciting and different.

Hi llefenni,

Japan's not my specialist area, but I have a colleague of mine who knows Japan well - her name is Julia Nesbit - and she can really advise. Call her on 01488 689700
Sorry I couldn't help directly on this occasion.
Alex
