Subject: English/Indian Brides Dress
Hi All

My friend is getting married, she is English, h2b is Slkh. She has decided she doesnt want a traditional English Wedding dress or Indian wedding outfit but would like to combine the two, so maybe an ivory dress with an indian style, which she can add other layers too when in temple. We were wondering if there was any shops/designers who specialise in this style of contempory dress, I got married last year and know this site is amazing for getting replies, so please help.

Hi there,

That sounds like a fascinating and beautiful idea for a wedding dress! I have come across a designer in Leicester called Arinder Bhullar who designs outfits and I've seen some that look like a great combination of Indian/English dresses/lengha styles with modern silhouettes and gorgeous embroidery. Her website is - http://www.arinderbhullar.com/

I had a Hindu wedding ceremony and wore a traditional sari for that, but for my Church wedding I had a corset and skirt made from handmade lace, duchesse silk satin and hand-beaded chiffon that looked very much like a cross-over between Indian and English styles. They were made by Jo La Vey in Leicester who specialises in corsetry and I can't recommend her highly enough.

Ohh - last one! - a cousin had her registry wedding outfit made at Santoshi in London. She married a Chinese guy and wanted something that didn't look too Indian. Her outfit was a white corset-type top and long A-line skirt that had white Indian embroidery all over. It looked really elegant.

Hope this helps a little!

xx

My sister had an english wedding dress (strapless, A-line) made out of white indian material. it was covered in sparkles and was absolutley gorgeous.

She had it made by Monga's in Southall near London.

I would have a look at Charmi's Creations, Chiffons and Sati. The lady who owns Chiffons is a bit of a mare, but the designs are gorgeous.
