Dryness ranges from mild dehydration to obvious cracked, chapped or flaking skin. To ensure your face remains soft and hydrated, choose skincare that keeps the deeper levels of your skin moisturised as well as the surface.

DIY

Prep: Avoid drying soaps and opt for a hydrating cleanser that won't leave skin feeling tight and irritated. Try Olay Age Defying Cleanser, perfect for its skin-softening richness.

Prime: Choose a moisturiser that will help reinforce the outer barrier layer of your skin, keeping moisture in and irritating, dehydrating agents out. Sisley Intensive Day Cream, £108 (020 7491 2722), is excellent and contains a cocktail of anti-ageing botanicals to help ward off fine lines and wrinkles.

Protect: Skin naturally repairs itself as you sleep. To help quench a parched complexion, apply a thin layer of Aromatherapy Associates Rose Face Oil (pictured), £28.50 (020 8569 7030). Super-nourishing, it provides a lightweight, non-greasy moisture fix.

Perfect: Treat your skin once a week to Aromatherapy Associates' Renew Rose Hydrating Mask, £26. It smoothes dry patches while boosting circulation, tackling dullness and increasing your skin's natural radiance.
