The evening of the 15 January saw the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards take place in Beverly Hills, and there were plenty of winners in the style stakes. We've studied the red carpet arrivals to see which stylish stars will inspire your groom to dress for success on your big day. Start taking notes, boys...

First up is George Clooney, winner of Best Actor (Drama) for The Descendants. Wearing a classic Armani tux with wide-peaked lapels and a bow tie, 'Gorgeous George' looked every inch the Hollywood heavyweight. Girlfriend Stacy Keibler was the perfect accessory in siren red.

Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais went for colour-blocking in a burgundy three-piece suit with black trim and a black shirt. He also went sans tie for a more casual look.

Brit actor Idris Elba, proudly holding his Globe for Best Actor in a Mini-series or Movie for gritty crime drama Luther, looked very cool in a double-breasted black suit and tie with Louboutin spiked loafers.

Suave star Leo DiCaprio, nominated for Best Actor (Drama) for Clint Eastwood's film J.Edgar, balanced his black suit and bow tie perfectly with a crisp white dress shirt.

Actor-of-the-moment Michael Fassbender, nominee for Best Actor (Drama) for Shame, wore a glitzy midnight-blue Emporio Armani one-button suit and co-ordinating navy tie.

War Horse star Jeremy Irvine burst onto the celeb scene in style in this two-buttoned, satin-trimmed Gucci suit with a white pocket square and black tie.

Sherlock and War Horse actor Benedict Cumberbatch did dapper Brit very well in Savile Row tailoring – a fitted Spencer Hart suit with a narrow shawl collar and skinny tie, plus a peek of a white pocket square.

Hollywood hunk and Haywire actor Channing Tatum went for a classic look in a notched-lapel suit, pocket square and black tie.

British actor Clive Owen rocked a Bond-style black tux and bow tie with panache.

Ewan McGregor, pictured with wife Eve Mavrakis, looked slick and modern in a skinny tie and narrow shawl-collared suit, plus a cool side-slicked hair do.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler donned a navy three-piece Salvatore Ferragamo suit and dress shirt, perfect for a formal do.

Aussie star Guy Pearce, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini-series for Mildred Pierce, went tie-less with an open shirt beneath a three-piece suit and very cool specs.

Silver fox Harrison Ford did the old school proud in a classic tux and silk bow tie as he walked the red carpet with wife Calista Flockhart.

Antonio Banderas, who presented the award for Best TV Series (Comedy or Musical) to Modern Family, cut a dash in a tailored narrow-lapelled suit and black tie, with wife Melanie Griffith on his arm.

Perennial style-star Mr Pitt managed to draw all eyes in his dapper combo - even with Angelina Jolie beside him. His gentlemanly cane (he tripped while carrying his daughter Vivienne and fell awkwardly while trying to save her - aww!) just added to the vibe of his three-piece Salvatore Ferragamo suit, bow tie and slicked-back hair.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, nominated for Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) for 50/50 (and pictured here with producer Will Reiser, right), rang the changes by teaming his satin-trimmed tux with a jaunty stripy bow tie.

Glee teacher Matthew Morrison certainly graduated from the style academy in this slim-fitting three-piece suit with a well-proportioned bow tie. Full marks!
