Famed for the royally cute flowergirl dresses Kate Middleton’s little maids wore, Nicki Macfarlane’s creations are the stuff of every little girl’s dreams.

So it comes as no surprise that department store John Lewis have snapped up a second collection from the designer, available in store from 1 February. Nicki’s new offerings feature fairytale-style silk and organza dresses in soft candy-coloured hues with prices starting at £210.

1. THE STATEMENT BOW
"Reflecting our bridesmaid's dresses at the royal wedding, we've seen a move towards the traditional 'English' dress style with full, petticoated skirts and delicate detailing. The large bow, seen on the back of Catherine's bridesmaids have certainly seen a resurgence in popularity we're very glad to say!"

2. THE COLOUR
"Colours are muted in ivories, pastel shades and pale metallics."

3. THE INSPIRATION
"As we've seen on the catwalks and TV shows such as Mad Men, there's been increased interest in fashion from the 1950s, belted dresses and again, the full skirt. They're so flattering on every figure and work particularly well on all ages, including the slightly older bridesmaid."

4. THE FABRIC
"Luxurious materials such as organza and lace are very big for 2012 and add an element of luxury to any dress."

5. THE DETAIL
"Pretty detailing such as puffed sleeves help little bridesmaids feel like a real princess for the day."
