Y&YW previews Akiras stunning Japanese-inspired bridal gowns at Browns Bride
When we heard that Japanese fashion designer Akira Isogawa was in town for the launch of his stunning new bridal collection this week, we hot footed it over to Browns Bride for a sneak peek at the new dresses and to chat to the man himself...
I am influenced by Japan, Akira told us, amidst the lavish surrounds of Browns Brides Hinde Street, London boutique where his current collection and archive pieces are on display, ...especially by different styles of kimonos within all of my work.
Running through the rail of exquisite dresses, delicately laced with Oriental-inspired embroidery - reminiscent of Japanese folk-art we spotted ornate stitched orchids, chrysanthemums and curling waves (similar to those in The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Hokusai), we got a real sense of Akiras eclectic style, perfect for modern day brides-to-be.
He picked out a stunning gown strewn with embroidered oriental flora and fauna (Akira is pictured holding it) and flipped back the skirt to reveal a vibrant red lining, Red is a colour for celebration in Japan, he explained with a brimming smile, holding the exquisite dress out for us to see. We couldnt agree more, something this beautiful deserves to be celebrated.
