Hello ladies

I'm really, really worried about finding my perfect dress for my wedding in December. I'm a size 20-22 and have convinced myself that getting a dress will be impossible.

To avoid any traumatic experiences I would like to go to bridal shops that also stock plus sizes and don't treat you any differently to other girls. Can anyone recommend any where in South East England? To be honest I would travel anywhere if it came with a good recommendation.

Thank xx

Deoending on where you are prepared to travel to i can highly recommend Whyte Weddings in Worthing, West Sussex. Im a size 24 and they had plenty of dresses that fitted me, and were so lovely, and put me at ease.I ended up getting my dress from them. I think they have recently opened a branch in Eastbourne too.

I have to second proudmum04, Jayne anns in basingstoke is fantastic, i have recently got my dress there. She is so friendly and helpful and really reasonable. There is none of the awkwardness i found at other bridal shops, especially being a little bigger and having to stand there in your undies she made me feel like it was so normal!

Hi girls,

i was terrified before my first dress outing but if its a good bridal shop they wouldnt even consider mentioning your size. You can try on any of the dresses and most of them go up beyond size 24. Don't think you can only go to the plus size shops. Im getting my dress from mirror mirror in london and they have been utterly lovely from teh minute i went in. I also tried on dresses in meoposa in hatton garden, love me do bridal in kingston and all that glitters in wimbledon - same story for all of them. I'd called up in advance to tell them my size and ask if they had dresses and they all said yes no problem, doesnt matter what size you are etc and i found the staff in the shop to have the same attitude.
good luck x

Thanks so much for all your replies, they have been gratefully received. I have been to a few shops and so far I've been able to look and try most dresses that I've liked. Although there have been a few comedy moments where I've not been able to squeeze into a size 14 sample dress (boobs they always get in the way!) so the've just placed the dress in front of me (yes, I was standing in just pants and a bra at the time ) so I could get a sense of what it could look like.....
I don't feel comfortable placing all my trust in a dress that I can't actually try on. So my mission continues to the find 'The One'.

Plus Size Wedding Dresses

I have just had my 2nd appointment at Curvy Couture Bridal Boutique in Essex and have ordered my dress. They are amazing - all the dresses are plus size, have in built corsetry and are beautiful. I tried on 11 dresses and I am a size 24/26. They even have dressing gowns so that you are not left standing in your undies between dresses. I would recommend them to everybody. The girls there are plus size too - which somehow makes it easier to get undressed. Finally I am looking forward to my wedding. This is the website www.curvycouturebridal.co.uk Good Luck in your search. X
