Hi there, I have a few weddings booked in and just wondered what the general idea was re photographer dress. I feel for male photographers it's much easier, a smart suit or shirt & tie, but what about a female photographer? White dress is a no, black dress is a no. I don't want to stand out, so thought I should wear something in keeping with the guests, but then again I don't want to look to dressy, no do I want to look like I'm going to work in an office. Any ideas? How would you like a female photographer to be dressed? Thank you x

I am a female wewdding photographer, my fiance and I work together for weddings, he tends to wear dark jeans, a shirt and a smart jacket.  I tend to go for, a dress with eithe black leggings or tights and flat ballet pumps.  I actually quite often wear a black  dress, nothing fancy (plain stretchy material) and a coloured cardigan.  Or I wear dark skinny jeans, with a smarter top.  I have to wear something easy to move around in, as I am often kneeling or taking photos from random angles !

Thank you for your reply it was very helpful xx

I have worn many types of dresses or skirt top combo's. I always go for smart but comfortable. I find dresses that go past the knee and are A line shaped the best for moving around and not worring about flashing anything! I tend not to have bare legs out of respect just in case.

To me....I expect (right or wrongly) black dress. Fairly indiscreet. Not too smart - not too casual

I went to a wedding last year where the 2nd photographer was a woman - she had a lovely dress on but it was so short, everytime she knelt down or bent over to get a shot, you cold see her knickers.  I thought it was very inappropriate!

He he this made me laugh. I definately wouldn't wear anything to short and would always wear tights. Thank you so much for your  input everyone

This is a really interesting conversation! I haven't even thought about what out photographers will be wearing!

To be honest, as long as there is no pant flashing I really don't mind!

It falls firmly in the category of things you have no control over like the weather!

I think it's sweet you are asking for opinions though and I wouldn't have any issue with a black dress.

I'm glad people have no issue with a black dress. I thought it was a major no no , but if there isn't anyone who thinks its a problem than maybe I could get away with it I have a nice black karen millen one which is really smart. I didn't even notice what my photographer was wearing on our big day tbh.

I just want to be as professional as possible and really do not want disappoint by turning up in something inappropriate, if that makes sense. It's such a special day and I don't want anyones memories tarnished by a memory of me in the wrong clothing lol

I think it's great you're asking. My mum's photographers a couple of years ago looked really scruffy. It wasn't something she'd thought about at all but it seemed kind of odd on the day. They were in jeans and trainers, def not smart ones though!

I'm sure a black dress would be fine... I would say anything fairly plain and smart-looking but I guess everyone's different!
