Hi,
I am wearing alfred angelo 1148 with my hair up but I have no idea what kind of necklace to wear! The neckline is like a shallow sweetheart but the straps of the dress go across the shoulders (difficult to explain!) I don't know if I should go for a pendant necklace or not... What would you suggest would go with this neckline? thanks!

Hi Clare,

I wondered if you could help. After the royal wedding I'm really keen to wear a tiara to my own wedding. A couple of problems though, my dress has quite a high neck line and so I'm worried about looking too over done. Also, how can I pull off wearing one without looking like a fake princess? Help!
Thanks.

I've got a two part question, hope that's OK!!! First, I LOVED Kate Middleton's tiara/veil combo and I'm wondering how she got the veil to stick in under her tiara once she pushed the veil back from her face? Were there special clips or combs she needed to use to get that look?

Second, I've got a strapless, a line dress, very simple shape, with crystal beading at the waist for a bit of sparkle. Since the dress is so simple I'm torn on what to do with jewellery. I don't much care for long, heavy earrings and am more of a stud girl, but will they be lost and not show up enough? Would a statement necklace be a good option, and if so how do I balance that with earrings? THanks for your help!

Hi Clare
I have a lovely diamond bracelet my nan gave me to wear but I'm not sure what other jewellery will go with it without overpowering it. I'm wearing quite a slinky, white dress, and don't like fussiness in general. Would just earrings be OK? hair is down, no veil. If it's not enough, what type of necklace would you recommed with a cowl neck? Thanks!!

Hi youngbride2011,

Love the dress! I know what you mean about the shoulders. This is lovely with a pendant or v-shaped necklace, especially as the dress looks like it has no embelishment on it. I would recommend simple v-shaped necklace with some sparkle. Make sure it looks pretty from the back if you are wearing your hair up.

Another idea if you don't feel right in a necklace is to find a beautiful brooch and wear it on the hip where your dress gathers.

Hope this helps! Cx

Hi Shoesdowntheaisle,

Really good questions! I don't think you need to worry about the high neckline and tiara combo - it worked beautifully for Kate, and bridal-icon Princess Grace. This look is regal, so don't try to fight that.

However, one thing to be very careful about when you wear a tiara is earrings - I think it's a combination of the wrong earrings and a tiara that can look a bit more "queen mum"! If in doubt, simple pearl or diamond studs are best.

If you don't like the idea of a "fake" diamond tiara, avoid large diamate stones and manufactured tiaras which can look cheap. Consider freshwater pearls for a much softer, more classic look, and choose a simple, low design which will be more flattering.

Don't rush into it, and try as many tiaras as you can, ideally with your dress (check return policies on websites).

Hi Hula8

I was also fascinated by the clever way Kate wore her veil. The overall impression was that the veil had simply been placed over her head, but you are correct (eagle eyes) it was secured behind the tiara so that it stayed beautifully in place when it was taken off her face.

The most comfortable way to do this is to actually stitch the veil to the back of the tiara, but this means you can't remove the veil and leave the tiara. A good alternative is to sew tiny hooks to the veil and have your tiara designer add little loops to the back of the tiara to hook the veil on to. We regularly do this for standard veils and it's a great way to get rid of the bulky and often itchy veil combs. When you want to remove the veil, just ask someone to carefully unhook it.

If you are wearing a tiara, I wouldn't suggest a statement necklace. A simple pendant would work better as it won't "fight" with the tiara. Look for something with a bit of sparkle to tie in with your dress. Wear earrings that you feel comfortable in, studs or tiny drops so you get a little movement but don't feel uncomfortable. You don't want people to be focusing on your ears, so don't worry if you feel they don't show up, they are there as a finishing touch.

As a general rule, the bigger the necklace the smaller the earrings.

Does this help?! Cx

Hi QueSarahSarah!

Lucky you! I am very excited about your look - I think it will be different, grown-up and just a bit sexy!

Could you be talked into some glamorous chandelier earrings? With a simple column dress, your diamond bracelet and no necklace, you would ooze effortless elegance! Simple!

Hi Clare,

Im gonna be wearing a fab 50s-style frock on my big day, but am not really a fan of pearls - any other jewellery ideas (necklace/earrings) of what i could wear that would go with the outfit and era?

Thanks!

Hi Holloway_Hottie

You could really have some fun with this! How about embracing the vintage trend and hunting out some genuine 50s jewellery from an antiques market? There was lots of fun, sparkly and affordable costume jewellery in the 50s with clear or coloured diamante, and you may find something truly unique that you fall in love with.

Jewellery sets were popular in the 50s so you could look for a matching necklace and earrings. There are lots of lovely vinatge brooches too, which you could wear on yout dress or even in your hair.

As a general rule, stick to clear stones and dainty designs if you want a classic bridal look, or bold, colourful jewellery for a more individual style.

Have fun!

Hi Clare,

Im going for a Hollywood starlet look for my weddig with a slinky dress and red lips. What jewellery would you recommend - I want to make sure I don't overdo it with the bright lips too?

Thanks

Hi Mrs b2b2708

Ooh gorgeous! It's so nice to hear so many of you creating your own individual wedding looks!

Scarlet Johansson is great at this look - she pulls off the red lips without looking overdone. Search google images for her and you'll see some good inspiration!

I would suggest you avoid a tiara, and go for a more relaxed hair accessory. Some grips or pins or a side tiara, with neat waves or curls for starlet-factor.

Also, this look is all about the earrings - choose some medium sized diamante earrings (gotta have sparkle) e.g. http://www.yarwood-white.com/products-by-type/earrings/modern-heirloom-chandelier-earrings and go without a necklace.

The red lips will be the focus. Choose a nice matt lipstick that will stay put and look super-glam.

How exciting!

Hi Clare,

I'm looking for some earrings to match my engagement ring (swirly white gold metal and three little diamonds) and a pendant I bought from H Samuel of simialr design. I really want delicate swirly earrings with cubic zirconia to match the diamonds, but I also like really big, dangly earrings and haven't been able to find anything big that isn't too chunky - any ideas? Since I'm wearing a royal blue dress I'm also interested in finding earrings with both white AND blue stones, if possible!

This is the necklace:

Hi RowenaFW

Sounds like you know what you like!

If you haven't found what you want shopping around and on the internet (and it sounds like you have looked) it might be a good idea to approach some designers to see if you can have something made. Try googling Bespoke Jewellery to find someone near you.

You could show your pendant to a designer, and see if they could adapt two of these into earrings, which might be a simpler/less expensive way of doing it.

Another idea if you have time and are feeling creative would be to go on a jewellery making course and see if you could make the perfect pair of earrings for yourself!

If all else fails, don't worry too much about finding the perfect "match". Some of the most interesting and beautiful accessory combinations are complimentary rather than matching. After all, Kate's earrings didn't "match" her tiara!!

Good luck!

Thanks Clare!

I'm done a little jewellery making myself, a few years ago, but the shop I used to get beads and wires from closed down. Would you know where I might be able to buy slightly more upmarket silver metal frames and stones from?
