I think I must have Googled every venue that exists in London but I'm hoping someone will have a new idea for me! We're looking for a venue that does civil ceremony and reception, with around 80 guests. We've got a budget of around £8500 for venue hire and catering.

Ideally I'd love somewhere by the river or near a pretty lake/garden but I know that's near on impossible with ou budget! If anyone has any suggestions feel free - at this stage we want all the ideas we can get

Would you go outside of London a bit? There are some gorgeous places in Berkshire and Surrey - we've gone for Pennyhill Park Hotel, which I fell in love with before I even went inside! You can get married outside there aswell.

I wouldn't mind moving slightly out of London - I've seen some gorgeous venues in Essex! I know the OH is less keen so I might have to persuade him However, if they're cheap enough I think we'd consider it! Your venue looks lovely

Winchester House in Putney is lovely. It has a nice garden that overlooks the thames. Can't remember how much they were going to charge us though, sorry.

Hi
I feel like I googled every venue too after getting engaged - sometimes there's just too much choice and it's so hard to come to that final decision! Anyway, here are some of the places I noted down in my venue search that might fit your bill:

If you don't mind having the ceremony and reception in different places then Orleans House Gallery out towards Twickenham is so, so lovely. There are lots of places round there for receptions too - The Wharf restaurant in Teddington is one that springs to mind but I know there are others too.

In central London there's a nice restaurant called Northbank which has a terrace by the river but you would have to have the ceremony somewhere else.

You could look at the Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park - it's by a little lake and, obviously, is surrounded by park. You can have both ceremony and reception there.

Lauderdale House in Highgate is another venue in a park - a friend of a friend had their wedding there and I've heard it's quite reasonable but obviously I don't know the exact details of the bill! They're also licensed for ceremonies.

Another waterside venue (although not with a garden, as far as I know) is the Canal Museum - you can bring any caterer you like to this one which can really help to keep the cost down. Unfortunately they're not licensed for ceremonies though.

The London Wetlands Centre near Barnes looked pretty cool and has amazing surroundings - I never found out the price though so don't know whether it suits your budget, sorry.

Some friends had their wedding at the Thames Rowing Club in Putney which is right on the river. The main room was really nice and I know they said it was a very competitive price. It's also licensed for ceremonies. You could also look at the London Rowing Club and the Auriol Rowing Club.

Anyway, I hope some of these help. I will let you know if I think of anywhere else.

The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich is lovely and just by the river. It can hold the ceremony and the reception - think it was £3500 for venue hire and 'free' ceremony! Can't remember how much the catering was - but the hire fee put us off but as you have a budget for it this might work for you

Gatsby, that's amazing, thanks! I've heard of most of them but didn't think to look at them for weddings!

Lynda - I will send you a private message with my email address as we live in Deptford so that sounds ideal

Westminster Boating Base does dry hire and is right on the river with views to Battersea.

We've gone for Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park - its major selling points for us were the very pretty grounds and gardens, the amazing views out over London, and the price!

We held our reception at the Trafalgar in Greenwich. It was amazing and the food is was brilliant. I can highly recommend it.

If you really want to be by the river try Winchester House in Putney. It has a gorgeous garden overlooking the river. Also the Star & Garter in Putney do weddings but they don't have a garden.

As someone already mentioned the rowing clubs in Putney are very reasonable. Try Thames Rowing Club and London Rowing Club. Again they don't have gardens but both have lovely balconies and Thames has just been renovated.

Across the river try Linden House in Hammersmith. I think 80 is the maximum they can do.

We considered Westminster Boating Base. They don't have their own garden but there's public gardens just outside where they have the reception drinks if the weather is good. Plus you can arrive by boat! It wasn't for us because they couldn't extend to a late licence but it might be what you are looking for!

Further down the river in Richmond try the Bingham Hotel, although I think it is pretty pricey. But you never know, you might be able to cut a deal!

Thanks everyone! We have an appointment at a venue in Greenwich (not waterside, but fills a lot of other criteria) so hopefully this goes better than previous visits

Greenwich is fab - think the de vere Devonport does weddings but not by the river but in the right sort of area! Keep us posted

we almost booked Grove House, Roehampton University buildings. Sounds strange but its a converted manor house set in private grounds opposite the hospital in roehampton. The house is absolutely beautiful, with gorgeous wood pannelling, frescos and paintings on the ceilings. There is a rear conservatory room which oepns out onto a rose garden and lake.
We also looked at a number of National Trust propertie Its used as a place for lectures and weekend conferences. The hire fees are quite low but the fee also goes back into preserving these amazing buildings rather than the profit margin if a hotel chain. The buildings are quite beautiful and unique.

Hiya, any ideas how much the fees for roehampton were?
