Is anyone thinking of going to, or has already been to, Antigua? Any advice on whether it's worth a visit much appreciated!

Antigua is stunning, the beaches are out of this world....think the bounty advert crossed with the lilt advert and that's about it! It's very romantic, and to me felt quite safe to go into St Johns the main town for food or drinks.....that said there's not tonnes of nightlife, one or two clubs and a handful of restaurants, i've been a few times so if you decide to go i'll reccomend you some spots. I'd def say, if you can hire a car and expore some of the beaches, if you're gonna go all that way, don't stick to the hotel beach

Hi, we went to Antigua in June 2010 and it was beautiful. If you do go I would recommend going to Shirley Heights on a Sunday evening, they have a steel drum band followed by a reggae band as the sun sets and they also have a big BBQ going all night, it's on a really high part of the island so there's fantastic views as well.
There's a forum about Antigua and Barbuda which has lots of information on it from tourists and locals which I spent lots of time on in the build up to our holiday.
If you decide to go and want any information let me know, we didn't see much of the island but could give you more information about the things we did do.

Thanks ladies - it's good to know that it's as lovely as it looks from people who have actually been!

We've definitely decided to go for our honeymoon now, and booking it tomorrow. I'm so excited!! Any tips you have on where to go and what to see would be much appreciated!

Me and hubs got married in Antigua. It's so beautiful and unspoilt by tourism, still very traditional.

Shirley Heights is a must on a Sunday evening, the views are fantastic and the music and food are fabulous.

I didn't go in October, but we did go in September. It was lovely, so sunny and hot but was out of season, so while there were still people there, it wasn't absolutely heaving. It was perfect.

And, whatever you do, please don't let anyone tell you "oh that's hurricane season", yes, they are right, but because of where Antigua is, even the locals will tell you, hurricanes very rarely hit the island.

We are thinking about Antigua for our honeymoon too. We were thinking of one of the Sandals hotels? Anyone been to any of them in Antigua? Anyone been in January too as that is when we would be going.
