H2b and I have decided on a multicentre trip to Italy for pur honeymoon Having seen a few posts on here about these places, I wondered if anyone could recommend places to stay in Venice that isn't majorly expensive? Theres lots of recommendations for Rome and Sorrento, but not sure about Venice?
Also has anyone/is anyone planning a similar trip? Are you travelling between places via plane or train?
Any advice/recomendations appreciated, thank you.

That's what we did last September. Venice is shockingly expensive and we wanted to stay somewhere decent because it was our honeymoon. My cousin had stayed at La Villeggiatura which is a very nice B&B rather than a hotel. It was a lovely room with a massive bed, character and in a great location only a five minute walk to the Rialto bridge and near a water bus stop. It wasn't cheap but you need to compare it with other Venitian hotels.

We wandered around Venice and St Mark's Square, had a gondola ride, visited Morano and Borano, looked round a museum and sat on a beach.

Three months before we were due to travel we booked first class train tickets from Venice to Rome and then Rome to Naples. At Naples you can catch the local train, Circumvesuviana, that takes an hour to get to Sorrento for only a few Euros.

Oh wow, did you have a lovely time? I am very excited, our wedding isnt until May next year but want to get a good idea now so we can book it asap. Sounds like getting the train is the best option, and I imagine a better view?!
Thank you

Check out Truly Venice apartments - there are some stunners! We've stayed in 2 and were way better than any of the hotels we stayed in. Would post a link but on my phone! Venice is my fave place so very jealous

Trains are much cheaper than booking flights. You can get an idea of the prices by looking at the prices for the next three months, but you can't book more than three months ahead.

We flew into Marco Polo and had pre-booked a water taxi transfer as a nice treat. Definitely an indulgence but I felt like Sienna Miller sitting in the back of a luxury white leather and wood, open topped water taxi. However you can get the water bus for a few euros. We stayed for four nights and then took a water taxi to the train station and caught the train to Rome. It was a long train journey, about five hours, but I think first class is worth it especially with your cases.

We stayed near the station in Rome and went sightseeing for three nights. The train to Naples and local train to Sorrento. We stayed in the Grand Hotel Capodimonte, up on the top floor in an amazing room wtih a stunning balcony. We splashed out on this trip because it was our honeymoon, we usually wouldn't get the best room in the hotel and take taxis everywhere. We even hired a driver to take us along the Amalfi Coast which was a lovely day out. We also saw Capri, Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, etc. We stayed six nights, but wished it was a couple longer, and hired a car to take us to Naples airport.

How long did you stay in Venice for? We want to do 14 nights in total but can't decide whether to do 4 nights Venice and 3 nights Rome or vice versa, we want to do 7 nights in Sorrento.
Where did you stay in Venice and in Rome for your splash out? The driver along the Amalfi coast sounds lovely can't wait already!

airbnb is a great website for accomdation - we stayed in a beautiful B&B/apartment for 2 nights, really central, extremely beautiful and a bargin compared to most hotels i saw. http://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/27116

We went to a friends wedding in italy last year - flew to rome for 3 nights, hired a car and drove to tuscany for 2 nights, then on to venice for 2 nights and then caught a train north a bit to the wedding. Hiring a car was a lovely way to explore a bit but the trains were cheap, quick and a lot nicer than trains in the UK. We booked all our accomdation on airbnb and all was fantastic
