I am getting married in July 2016. Do you think this is to early to plan and start looking at venues?

Oh God, the wait is gonna be torture! I'm not getting married until late 2015 and people think I'm crazy, so I dont even mention that I'm actually already 6 years into planning! lol
There is certainly no harm in having a look around and getting a feel for what you like, It turned out that where I thought I wanted to have my wedding wasn't very welcoming, so glad I have plenty of time to look at other options!
My only advice would be that practically no venue will be able to take bookings so far in advance, and nor should you want to put any money down so early, alot can happen in those 4 years, and many people pospone things for all kinds of reasons, 2 years/18 months is more than enough notice. MOst venues and suppliers will look at you like you are crazy, they did to me, and alot still do it, so if you can get away with not telling them a date yet, dont, I found by not disclosing the year, they took me more seriously, after all, I wanted a rough idea of they charge for things, even if this price might have doubled when it comes to book!
Its never too early looking for ideas though, and definately never too early to start slotting some money away for it either!!
On a more personal note, I love the fact there is someone out there closer to my dates!

I am so pleased its not just me getting too excited and wanting to plan the wedding. I was worried that i was being to prmature. Were getting married 14th feb 2014
I have chosen my dress and paid for it!!! its still at the shop and i get my dress fitting sept 2013!!!!!!!!!

I go to wedding fayres and when being asked when the wedding is i just say 14th feb! unless they say "oh next year" i just let them presume, that way i am taken seriously!!

congrats to you both i am sure time will fly by it i for me, because i am so busy planning!!!!

I think this is a bit early, especially venues as prices will change a lot and no one will be able to give you a price for then, or be able to give you an estimate. Some venues increase prices about 1k every year!

You could look around at venues now and see what you want and whether they're in your budget or you should save more for it. Also have a look at the price differences between 2011/2012/2013 etc. to estimate how much your venue would go up by by the time you get married.

Why not start a scrapbook as well for ideas of dresses/centrepieces/honeymoon etc.?
