Hi all

Been reading some of these posts and it really struck a chord with me so thought I'd just say hi! I'm getting married in June 2010, I'm 39 and my H2B will be 31 when we tie the knot.

It will be my second time around but this is different for me as it's the first time I've been able to buy the dress and do the whole 'trying on in a shop' thing (MIL made my dress first time I was much younger and much less confident!) so I am loving it all and have found a beautiful dress that I can't wait to wear and my mum is as excited as I am about me wearing it.

I just find it odd that when I talk about the wedding people say 'oh, you are doing the whole dress thing?' and in ivory????? As if they are shocked. And in a church????? What do they expect me to do walk with my head in shame in a smart suit or something? If you want to be less glam then go for it but it's sooooooooo not me I like sparkle and everything girly and I am always being told I neither look or act my age so why should I let these people get to me?

When I tried on dresses I kept saying I don't want people to talk about me because I'll be nearly 40 and they will think I look silly but the women in the shop (and my mum) were brilliant and said I should ignore those thoughts and that it doesn't matter about anybody else and that the dress I picked reflected me perfectly, a bit different with a bit of sparkle. Also, H2B would be devastated if I turned up on the day in something I thought I should wear rather than what I wanted to wear!

Oooh I feel better for writing that!!!

I got married nearly 3 years ago and was 47 at the time. It was my first and his second. I had the whole 'dress thing' and it was great. The lovely ladies where I got my dress kept saying it's what so many people want but a re scared to do, but they really encouraged me.

It's your day so just ognore anyone else!

Love & hugs

0506bride2b,

Go for it and look amazing.

I'm getting married in July for the 2nd time (H2B's first time). I'm 47 but have been told I don't look my age (phew!). I did the full church wedding the first time (age 28) and I'm more excited this time round. Like you, people also asked me what I was wearing and looked a bit taken aback when I said an ivory dress with tiara (no veil this time round). I'm going for a tealength strapless ivory dress with a chiffon pashmina round my shoulders. When my brother and SIL got married my SIL was wearing a suit which was lovely but she's not as girly as me. When my mum and I started talking about what I was wearing she mentioned the word "suit" and I nearly freaked. I said this is our wedding and I will be wearing something "bridally". When she saw me in my dress she quickly changed her mind. My H2b too would be devasted if I turned up in anything other than girly.

Sorry I've blabbered on. Just enjoy every minute of it and look beautiful.

Jxx

hi girls! i'm 43 - will be 44 when i get married (29th december) and h2b will be 51! my first time so I'm determined it's going to be fantastic! have ordered my dress -'beautiful' by blue bridalwear - i didn't want a long gown but wanted a gorgeous wedding dress - minute i tried it on i knew it was the perfect dress for me! felt wonderful in it and can't wait to get married in it.
Can't understand why people think you won't want your wedding to be the most romantic, perfect day ever just cos your a bit older or it isn't your first time - still your wedding day and should be a day to remember!

I'll be having a chapel-length veil with a blusher so the full shebang for me!!

I think after waiting all this time to find the love of my life I deserve to make an even BIGGER deal of it than I would if I were younger!!

Go for it!!!

Thank goodness I found this thread! I'm 38 and thought I was past all this wedding excitement stuff, until we decided to get married, and now I'm obsessed, but feel I shouldn't be at this age.

Not sure if I'm wearing a wedding dress or a bridesmaid dress, reception is in a field so I need to be a bit practical. But whatever I wear, it shall be what I want to wear, not what I feel others think I should wear.

I haven't replied again since starting this and I'm so glad everybody has taken the time to add their comments it really does make a big difference! I have got right into the swing of things and it doesn't feel as though I've ever been married before as it's so different, so exciting!

Good luck to all of you and can't wait to see all the photos of you all!

Sally that dress is gorgeous!

Hi tantrums - you go for the wedding dress if thats what you want dont worry about the field!!
When is your wedding?

Totally agree with Mrs Sally Bowman to be - we've waited a long time to find the right men for us so lets celebrate it!!!! By the way you look fab in your dress.

I'll be 43 and H2B 35 when we get married on 29th December (same day as sn2bkk). First (and only!) marriage for both of us. I've already got the dress - Benjamin Roberts 1079 (vintage collection) in diamond white.

Every bride deserves to look and feel beautiful on her big day
