I absolutely love reading everyone's planning threads, so thought I'd start my own. As you can see by the title - I'm due to get married in September! And I'm not exactly 100% on top of things , but we're getting there
How We Met
Nothing interesting here I'm afraid! It's the usual 'met on a night out' story. We swapped numbers and text back and forth for a good month or so before actually meeting up (he told me at the time it was because of exams at Uni etc. but when we were together properly he admitted he was nervous - bless). Our first date was a couple of drinks and the cinema - the rest, as they say, is history!
My H2B and I love going on holiday! (Who doesn't?). We had been together for 7 years and after having a disaster in our house (completely flooded - burst pipe in the loft. We had to move out for 8 months while the house was fixed), we decided that a holiday was exactly what we needed after all the stress. We were thinking Venice, or New York. We had both been to New York before but not together and we both wanted to go back so New York won out (also, we were going in March and I'd like to see Venice in the sunshine).
We had a fantastic week in New York seeing some new sites and re-visiting others. H2B had suggested that we go to Central Park on our last day as I had said I wished I'd spent more time there the last time I had been. He said we could have a nice day in Central Park after all the sight seeing and take it a bit easier that day. Sounded good to me! It was also 8 years to the day since our first date....(you can see where this is going!)
It was a really grey day with lots of sleet, so not particularly nice. However, when we got into the park, it started really snowing - proper fluffy flakes! It was lying and before we knew it, Central Park was a winter wonderland like you see in the films.
We were in there for hours! We saw Strawberry Fields, the Alice in Wonderland statue, Bethesda Terrace...The last stop we wandered to was Belvedere Castle which is on a lovely lake. We walked round to a small jetty and were there for a while. H2B seemed reluctant to leave. Then he told me to look out at the water while he took a photo of me. Standing there for a little while and wondered what was taking so long! Turned round and he was down on one knee with my beautiful ring (he had actually packed a plastic bag to kneel down on lol).
I was absolutely gobsmacked. He had acted completely normal all week! Even that day he was just himself. He told me later that he wasn't nervous until he was going down on one knee and thought 'what am I going to say?!'. He basically said that we'd been together 8 years that day, and he'd love for us to be together forever. Awww!
Obviously I was over the moon and said yes!! We were in the park for such a long time in the snow, but it was after he proposed that the cold hit me - It must've been the shock lol.
We finished that day off with the Empire State Building at night. It was lovely seeing New York all lit up. But it was also blowing an absolutely freezing gale. I was so cold my skin hurt lol.
My beautiful ring
