Hi all,

My fiance and I have recently decided to downgrade from a guest list of 350 to 50 and have a smaller intimate wedding. Any suggestions for a small wedding reception venue in Manchester? I'm looking for something small but special with nice lighting and that allows self catering. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

We are having our reception at Bacchanalia (just off Cross Street). It is an amazing cocktail bar that has a function room (The Amphitheatre) upstairs. It is decorated really nicely and you can add whatever decorations you want. They allow you to cater it yourself too (for a buffet etc), although they have an amazing canape/buffet menu that is much cheaper than you would think. They do have a minimum spend on weekends though, but there is no hire charge for the room.
The say it holds 55/60 people comfertably, but 80 people have fit in there - but it is a sqeeze.
You should definitely check it out though. Neil, the manager, is so helpful and didn't mind answering the 1000's of questions I had They also have the most amazing (lethal) cocktails too
Hope that helps.
We spent ages trying to find a small venue in Manchester (we are only having 30 day guests and an extra 20 at night and it was really hard to find something that didn't charge the earth. Castlefeilds rooms also have some nice rooms, but they have HUGE minimum spends

How about Bredbury Hall , stockport?? Or why not go to someone like Quarry bank mill owned by the national trust - i'm almost sure that they allow self catering whilst allowing the splendor or a historic place. Just a thought. xx

Were having the belle Epoque brasserie in knutsford.... You can can have sole use of the venue. Were having an intimate wedding of spprox 40 in The day. It's very shabby chic but elegant. It's beautiful!!

I spent ages looking for venues and found some lovely small ones, but unfortunately our guest list is too big.

The Belle Epoch in Knutsford is gorgeous and the Great John Street hotel also lookes amazing

as does Room but unfortunately none of these are self-catering.

I've not been but if you are willing to travel a short distance Peover Golf Club looks gorgeous - it's self catering and the lighting makes it look sooo pretty

Great john Street hotel is part of the "eclectic hotels" chain. There are also 2 in Didsbury. Depending on your budget you can have a small party or can book the whole hotel! They're gorgeous and the people were at a wedding fair at GMex a few weeks ago and were really lovely. I'd defo hhave a look online.
