I am so so sooo nervous as I go to Russia for 6 weeks tomorrow morning. I'm so sure I've forgotten something really important..
But I bought lots of thermal clothes and a big down coat so I'm ready for snow:
(That's me posing on the tube into work at 8am on a Sunday )
While I'm gone, Ralph has to sort out and send the invitations, the wedding info website, and organise and site visit for the tipi company. Poor guy.. with me hassling him from Russia every 5 minutes until they're done!
My grandparents have very kindly offered to pay for a vintage route master bus to transport people from the ceremony venue to the reception. We won't book it until we know how many people are likely/planning to be driving or will need the transport, and we've asked people to say in their RSVP form on the website. Obviously plans might change but we need an approximate number to book the bus!
So hopefully when I get back on Christmas Eve (eek) lots will be sorted :)
missed connection flight from St Petersburg, because they decided I should have declared my cello at customs as it is worth a lot of money, but it took them ages to work everything out (it was super incompetent and they wouldn't listen to me because I was a woman all they would say was don't worry and that I looked like some russian actress). But when they realised I was seriously going to miss it, one of them went above and beyond, running through the airport with me, carrying my bags (completely left his post in customs) and then trying to get me onto the next plane for free, and doing a WiFi hotspot from his phone. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful with the scary airline lady, but he left his number so I could contact him if I needed.
Anyway £90 and a few hours later I was in Moscow. But then when my accordion player picked me up from the airport he crashed into a pillar and so the bumper was hanging off his car.. so we had to drive and find a garage in a dodgy industrial Moscow suburb at 1am that could stick it back on. So we did that and sat and had Russian pop music blasted at us while the nice man fixed it, then drove to collect the guitarist and then out to where we are staying to rehearse for a few days (arrived at 3.45am).
BUT it's beautiful and we went for a walk in the forest today and I have WiFi at the moment so I can keep caught up on everyone's threads :).
Update: the customs guy from yesterday ended up talking to my accordion player due to language issues and so had his number, and texted him today to see if I was ok !
