Located at the southern tip of Mexico’s 1,000-mile Baja Peninsula (think mile-upon-mile of romantic beaches) along the coast of the beautiful Sea of Cortez and a mere two-hour flight from the shopping Mecca of Los Angeles is one of my favourite romantic hotels.

Honeymoon heaven
With 350 days of sunshine a year, you’re guaranteed pretty much perfect honeymoon weather any time of the year at Las Ventanas al Paraíso. That’s all the more reason to lounge about with your new husband in one of the luxury hammocks on its private stretch of sand.

There’s something on offer for every whim, from keep-cool sorbets dished out poolside, to a choice of mood-enhancing aromatic scented candles at turndown. Every suite comes with butler service (they can organise anything for you, whether that be a horse-drawn carriage ride into the desert for a picnic, a trip to the art galleries of San José or a private al fresco dinner and film on the beach (a definite must!).

Sleep by starlight
If you’re willing to splash out on the honeymoon of a lifetime then go for an Ocean View Rooftop Terrace junior suite. With its welcoming Mexican-meets-Mediterranean-style architecture, not only does the suite come with a spacious balcony Jacuzzi with panoramic sea views, but you can also improve your stargazing with the rooftop telescope – put in a call to your butler who will arrange for a bed (think super-comfy; no camping-style berths here) to be put up there, complete with washstand for a night spent under the stars.

Aribe tequila!
If you can tear yourself away from the romantic private dining that Las Ventanas does everywhere and so well (on the beach, on your roof terrace, balcony or panoramic Plaza) then there are three dining options to choose from. Breakfast at The Restaurant is a real treat, with homemade jams and delicious caramel spreads for your toast; definitely a good time to ditch that pre-wedding diet and try one of the sweet delights like banana French toast with maple syrup and cream!

The Sea Grill has a great beach vibe and too many fresh seafood dishes to mention. During the day, hang out at the pool bar – accessed by swimming up to it! – to sink a punchy jalapeno margarita or two. When in Mexico, you can’t avoid tequila (although back in Britain it’s traditionally a tip-you-over-the-edge shot, at Las Ventanas you’ll have a much more refined tequila experience and perhaps even become a convert like me). The Sushi, Ceviche & Tequila Bar is the perfect sundowner location. Here, they serve up a fusion of Mexican and Japanese flavours washed down with some of Mexico’s finest 100% agave tequilas.

Spa al fresco
As if being at Las Ventanas isn’t relaxing enough already, there’s also the indoor-outdoor spa for added TLC time. Book yourself into one of the private treatment rooms which has its own open-air garden, complete with real bird song! The full-body Balance Desert Stone Massage is 90-minutes of pure relaxation. Smooth hot and cold stones are placed on key tension areas of the body to stimulate chakras and rid yourself of all that wedding tension.

Honeymoon like the A-list
From the moment you’re picked up from the airport by a silver Mercedes 4x4 and welcomed at reception with a shot of foaming margarita (so delicious you’ll want another!) you know you’re in for a purely hedonistic experience. The attentive Las Ventanas staff have a real knack for attention to detail. There’s even a Director of Romance (we’re not kidding) Mariajose Rodriguez, who can coach your new husband in what’s best to prepare for your arrival.
