Make darling DIYs part of your W-day with these crafty ways to use a childhood favourite
Place your photograph face down and cover your first stick with glue. Place the stick horizontally at the top of the photograph and, when it has dried, use a scalpel to cut along the length of the stick, so you have your first piece of the jigsaw. Repeat until you've used the whole photo. Mix up the pieces and let your small guests fit it back together.
Ice lolly sticks throughout (coloured and natural), £1.69 for 100, Fred Aldous.
Make your own gift tags by writing your guest's name in the centre of the stick. Use a sharp tool to make a hole in each end. Take your ribbon and thread through one hole from the underside making a knot at the end to secure in place. Holding the tag in place wrap the ribbon around the gift, thread through the other hole and knot in place.
Ribbon, from a selection, Confetti.
Take two embroidery hoops of different sizes and discard the outer hoops. Glue sticks a few millimetres apart to the outside of both hoops alternating coloured sticks on the smaller one. To hang your shade, slot a length of clear string upwards between two sticks on opposite sides of each shade. Place the smaller hoop inside the larger one, letting it hang lower, and gather the strings at the top. Finish with a bow.
Lolly sticks and ribbon as before. Embroidery hoops, from £1.50 each, and glue, from a selection, both John Lewis.
On your computer create a heart template in proportion to the size of your ice lolly sticks, add your text to it, and print out on thin coloured card. You can hand-cut the hearts, if you prefer, and use rubber stamps to decorate. Then simply add a glue dot to the top of the stick and secure your heart in place.
