Last week we were sent the designs for our wedding stationery which I LOVED and today I okayed them ready for letterpress.
However, I showed the proofs to my mum this evening who shot it down in flames (unintentionally) and said they were more Art Nouveau than Deco....which they are....but I like them. I also know they're Nouveau (it's my job to know) but now I'm worried it's going to throw everything else off balance.
I've just emailed the stationery designer to see if she's made the plates for the invitations yet but she's in Chicago so I'm aware of the time difference. If she has, then it's too late, if not, then we have to go through the whole thing again. Nothing about our day is massively Art Deco...apart from my dress, but the theme is based on the mid to late 1930s and Art Nouveau finished around 1914 really. What do I do???
Then she made me panic about the wording, because we went for a generic invitation rather than fussing with writing people's names on it. She thinks people might assume it's an invite for the whole family and not the individual and I'd said the name of the person will be on the envelope. Looks like I'm going to have to write a note inside each one now too to explain who is and isn't invited-oh lord!!!
On the plus side, mum has spent the last week making a start on my dress which is absolutely stunning. So far she's got the basis of the bodice and she was fitting it to me this afternoon and yesterday on my lunch break which was great. My veil also arrived back home in Kent the day after I left for a two week freelancing job-which is SOOOO annoying, but I'll be back on Saturday as I'm taking mum to Bluewater to get her wedding outfit so I'll get to see it then!
Friday is pay day which means I can pay the last installment of the stationery and get the accessories for the bridesmaids. I'm ordering four gold leaf head bands from a lady who designs jewellery for Nelly Furtado and Kim Cattrall (oooooo!) and I've also located some gorgeous gold leaf jewellery made from reclaimed vintage pieces which I should be able to get next week...we're getting there now!
The only thing that worries me is where I'm going to find the rest of the money to pay the florist, work can be a little hit and miss for me so who knows what I'll be doing after the two weeks, not a comforting thought I know.
Good to hear I'm not the only pay-as-you-go bride though. How are your plans going ladies?
