Best of The Designer Wedding Show! Part 2

10/10/08

Well it was an exciting day at the Designer Wedding Show, I highly recommend you pop along for some bridal inspiration!

I had to stop at Two by Two Weddings’ stand (www.twobytwoweddings.com) - Nathalie’s designs are always very inspiring - I especially loved her venue style invites and the swarovski crystal decorated chandelier ones … pop along to the stand and ask her about them!

Have you always dreamt of getting married in Italy? Your dream could come true thanks to ‘Villa Giona’ 100km from Venice (www.villagionaweddings.com), call wedding and event designer Marion Hunter on (+39 339 78339070) for help on organising a truly stylish Italian affair! (I recently went to my friend Dahlia’s wedding in Tuscany and boy was the food good). And for truly pretty Italian style favours, check out Conti Confetteria (www.conticonfetteria..it) – they’re stocked at Harrods. (They even do a perfume that I didn’t smell, but check it out!)

There’re two cake companies worth chatting two, lovely Linda from Linda Fripp (www.lindafrippcakes.com) - I just loved her sugar crafted ruffles cake (pictured below) and Nicky Grant’s collection (www.nickygrant.com) - check out the nautical themed design with shells.

If you’re still stuck for inspiration for flowers, Paula Pryke (www.paula-pryke-flowers.com) is always happy to talk to you about wedding flowers and her new book ‘Pink Flowers’ is coming out in Spring 09 and Nicky Tibbles, from Wild at Heart (www.wildatheart.com) is also happy to talk to you about your plans. Did you know she’s just openend up a new shop at 54 Pimlico Road in London? I liked her pink duo-tone hydrangea urn display at the front of the show, it reminded me of balls of ice-cream.

And to end, looking for mouth-watering menu ideas? Look no further than Jalapeno’s (www.jalapenolondon.co.uk) stand (they did the food at Posh and Beck’s wedding you know) and for Pan-Asian food, ask for sample menus from lotus Events (www.thelotusfoodcompany.com). Like the sound of ‘Sang Wa of Salmon cured with wild ginger and orange zest with lime juice, on grilled sweet potato” as a starter? Thought so.

See you here again soon,

The best chocolate cupcakes

09/10/08

If you like the idea of a cupcake tower as your wedding cake, look no further than Hayley Rowan's at Comfort & Joy (www.comfortandjoycakery.co.uk), they look divine and taste even better ... I had a chocolate one the other day (decorated with an edible little cherub) and I must say it was the best tasting chocolate cupcake I've ever had and I've eaten plenty. Check out her new website, it's so cute; prices from £1.80 to £4 a cupcake.

Now if you like all things chocolatey, don't forget that it's Chocolate Week (www.chocolate-week.co.uk) next week and there're are plenty of events organised around town (check their site for full listing) and I've even done an inspirational chocolate themed ideas gallery for you to drool over under news and trends, receptions. Is your wedding themed around chocolate?

And by the way, are you going to the Designer Wedding show (www.designerweddingshow.co.uk) this week-end? It's worth a visit if you're after inspiration and ideas, there are some good designers and wedding suppliers. I'll be blogging about it on Monday, so keep surfing.

See you here soon,

Vanessa x

Turquoise and lilac colour scheme

My friend Katie Druett (www.druettdesigns.co.uk) who designs lovely stationery for weddings got married this summer to her long time boyfriend. The venue was Fulham palace (www.fulhampalace.org) in the West end of London. Her colours were in tones of turquoise and purple with striking tall vases, filled with wire and purple orchids, in the middle of the tables. For similar style designs, check out InWater (www.inwaterflowers.co.uk). Her on-going theme was a peacock feather - very Asian in style (her husband is Asian). What will your theme be? The best way to figure this out, is to find something that is common to you both and that’s meaningful. Did you meet on a plane? Your theme could be airplanes and you could have ceramic airplane nametags as favours, from £1.99, Blink Tiles (www.blinktiles.co.uk). Or did you meet in a pub? You could name each table after pubs you’ve been to together. Or did you meet on a VSO trip in the Amazonian forest? Your theme could be ‘Save the planet’ and you could have recycled bottles as your vases and biodegradable confetti to throw, from £1.99, Party Delights (www.partydelights.co.uk). One of my favourite details was the floral bag that her niece was carrying, how cute is that? Talk to your florist about floral details … the choice is yours. I hope these pictures have inspired you. It inspired me!
