we are getting married in the glenskirlie house next year. the castle lokos fab, I've been in it since it was finished, i just saw pictures of what it would look like finished, when it was being built. I loved the house, and the staff are always so nice and the food is great. Are you having the ceremony there? x

Hi there
We're not getting married at Glenskirlie, but have been to two weddings there and I have to say, the food there is amazing at both weddings, and probably ranks as one of the best wedding meals we've had.
At one of the weddings, the bride and groom had arrange a BBQ for the evening buffet, which was fab, though a little bit more expensive.
My friend is getting married at the Castle part in February 2008, and so far, has been impressed with the service she's received. She has also been to talk to the florist who deals directly with Glenskirlie, who she thought was really good.
She also said that the honeymoon suite looked great with a jacuzzi in the bedroom!! Nice!! (o;
Beautiful location, so good luck with the day!

Went to a friend's wedding there at start of Aug, i too had thought about getting married there so had ordered the wedding brochure, which was adoreable in the little box with tissue paper etc.
Great venue, smaller than i thought it would be, the ceremony room is very stunning with the stain glass windows, would say though 80 max for the room, otherwise it becomes a squeeze, you can fit 100.
The gardens werent finnished in time for my friends wedding, which i didnt really notice we were under a black marque out the back, but h2b was a usher so he saw the full gardens during the photos - there's a cute swing.
Staff were really efficient, food was ok -maybe this was just the choice of my friends menu?
They had again 80 for dinner which i think should be max size, more for dancing, and the buffet was good, kinda bbq style.
didnt see the bedroom but was told they were wonderful.
Only thing was i thought it was smaller than imagined but there are 2 sections to the 21st castle and there was another wedding in the other section although you wouldnt know they dont mix, we only knew as h2b had to borrow their piper for the bride to walk in!!
Drinks prices standard as a town bar.
going to have a wee look on my pics see if there is anything that shows the venue, i havent got any of the front as we
Good wedding !!

unfortunately dont have any pics that show off the venue, and my mates photos arent online yet for u to have a nosy.
Did like the bbq, they hold it outside, big black marquee cover, we had pasta salad, salad, chicken, burgers, sausages, and corn on the cob, yum yum, cant beat a bbq and its different to the triangle sarnies I will be having!!
Dont get me wrong its not overally small, the size is fine up to 100, we were all fighting over tables for the dancing though, but that was just one of the grandads trying to hog a table for 8 to himself, think he was hoping the pretty girls were going to sit next to him!!
wish i had taken photos of the front but once your in you just dont think of going back out to do so, we always went out the back to get fresh air.

The photographs look fantastic, ur right once your in, its always the back you would go out for air, did ur friends have chair covers? Also do you know if they used the florist who dresses Glenskirlie? What did you eat? Sorry lots of questions, at the meal was the wine served rather than sitting on the table?
Any help wud b fab!!
Thanks

Hey princess no problems, Its good to know everything! Not sure about the florists, I have one pic of the centre piece not great as from side, byt she had tall lilly glasses and Lilly, have a pic of the top table flowers, but they were on a different table at the ened of the night, and unfortunately there is also red bull, n half eaten burgers in the photos, when I was showing my mum she thought that was the top table during the dinner!! as if.
She didnt use chair covers and I didnt notice the pattern till I went back and looked at the photos now, I really wanted covers but they are sooo expensive and nobody notices really, although I do think it looks stunning when u walk into the room!
They came round and served the wine for us
Dinner was:
fruit in the jelly mould or soup
Steak and sauce or cold ham
chocolate mousey thingy
I should have gone for the soup instead took the fruit but I totally dont like fruit in that gelatine mould, nevermind, my fault, the steak sause was loverly and great gratin daulphinoise, but I found the steak wasnt the best quality, and the desert was fab, they had put on chocolate button like things on the plate for decoration, and placed in the fridge to set, but every one was determined to get these buttons off, dont know if I was hit by a piece of chocolate or plate with the force thst some of these guys were using on it!!
If I think of anything else will let u know.

I am really loving the idea of having this venue.
The only problem is I live an hour from it! I'm worried that it might be a bit too far for the elderly guests. I would put on buses though. I mentioned it to MIL2B and she kinda sounded surprised I was considering somewhere "so far away" What do you girls think? Is an hours drive too much?
We went for dinner onn Friday night in the castle grill and thought it was very nice.
I have an appointment with the wedding coordinator on Saturday so will get to have a proper look round. I love the idea of a BBQ at night.

Where do u stay? Im putting on buses goin and coming back, and doing a drop off at certain points, i.e Bearsden, George Square etc, so how can people complain, I luvd the venue its so unique, when i was at the wedding show on Sat and people asked my venue every1 sed how beautiful it was! The service etc is lovely as well! Some of my guests are travelling from Dundee so if they want to be at ur big day they will be willing to travel! What date have u got in mind?
The BBQ idea sounds lovely and so different too! Make sure u see the honeymoon suite its to die for!

I agree that if Im putting on transport then why can't people just relax and enjoy the day!
I can't wait to go back and see it on Saturday

I wudnt say its an hour away from Dumbarton? Time it on Saturday when you go, where are you having your service? To be honest wer trying our best to accommodate people and let them enjoy the day and are spending an awful lot of muny so people should just relax! Was it 2009 you wanted?

Your probably right. It took us an hour on Friday but that was rush hour...so it might be a bit less. We will be timing it again on Saturday.
We are looking a date in 2009. Not bothered whether its a Friday or a Saturday though. I just hope they have some dates left!
I think we are having our service at the local church here in Dumbarton but we haven't decided for definite yet.
Someone on here mention something about Molton Brown favours? (might have been you) Do you know what they are how much they are charging? They sound great.
Has there still be no word from the girl who got married there on Saturday? I dying to hear how it went!
