Hi - I'm new to this forum but have been lurking here for a while, enjoying the level of discussion and the laid-backness! So I hope it's ok to start a topic.

I will be seeing my dress for the first time next Tuesday (cue excitement and nail-biting). Because it's a Civil Partnership dress rather than a wedding dress I didn't want white, so I've had a dress made in a deep blue-green - it's got layers of shot chiffon so the colour changes as the fabric moves and the light catches it. That's the idea at any rate and it's what happened with the samples, I'm just praying that the final product will be as I imagined it!

It got me wondering about other people who have eschewed the white-wedding-dress idea. I've seen a couple of FANTASTIC non white dresses on this forum - some of the medieval styles are stunning, I now can't find the thread with the beautiful blue silk medieval gown. But I wondered whether there were other people who were going for colours? and if so what sort of styles?

Hi!! I'm cheating and having 2 weddings...I'm wearing a white 50's rockabilly style one to the tiny intimate one, then a big black and deep red corsetes gothic gown to the main one :)

i'm (hopefully) having a lilac 50's inspired dress with a spotty lacey overlay of white.

It's not made yet so it could change! :S

Yeah I am having a deep purple wedding dress. Its my favourite colour and I knew I'd always get married in purple!

Mine is actually a bridesmaids dress because I would have had to get one made if I wanted a "proper" dress in that colour. Its a one-piece with a bodice with sequins down one side.

The skirt is purple, a-line, no sequins, quite simple really.

I'm having a fitting at the end of June, I cant wait!!

Mines a red Candy Anthony dress with red petticoats and a black sash. I'll be wearing red shoes with little bows on the back.

I think I want a white dress, but I really like the ones that have coloured sashes. I definitely don't want a meringue!

These dresses all sound really lovely! I'm having a black and gold brocade corset with a soft gold organza skirt!

im having a red 50's style tea length dress with white petticoat and white detailing. i would so not look right in white.

My dress is scarlet and its gorgeous - tried on some white and ivory dresses but they made me look washed out. LOVE LOVE LOVE my red dress!!

Glad so many other ladies are deciding to try other colours. white is really hard colour to wear so i think wear whatever you feel comfortable in, your own style & what suits you.

I've not 100% decided yet, but i'd love a non-white dress. I think it's so unique and awesome. But hey, just because it's a civil partnership don't feel like you can't wear white if you want to. I attended a wedding of a gay female couple not long ago who were both in big white gowns, it was very lovely!
