Subject : Arrrrgh! Cake Ahoy!
So me and h2b don't want the little generic people on our cake.
H2b especially dislikes them because he does tabletop wargaming and he collects and paints the miniature figurines for that. In fact he paints more than he plays these days. He reckons he can find and paint up some nice minatures for us. Although there are less female ones avaialble, especially after I vetoed slave girls.
One evening h2b chuckles and says he's had an odd idea.
What if the top of the cake had miniatures of us in fighting stance surrounded by miniature zombies and skeletons. While I think it is a very interesting and good idea I point out that zombies and the undead in general (except maybe vampires and werewolves) lack a sense of romance and aren't really weddingy.
A few minutes later -sudden flash of inspiration- I suggest pirates.
There are a lot of pirate miniatures available and they are definitely a little cool and romantic and funny.
It's extra amusing cos a week or so previous to this a couple of friends were jokingly suggesting we have a whole pirate wedding. Well we definitely aren't going to do that, but as a cake topping it seems like fun!

You could train a parrot to say "pieces of cake, pieces of cake" - OK, not the most practical idea!

LOL I love the ideas - my h2b myself are into World of Warcraft and I just told him your ideas and he thinks they are fantastic. OK so zombies aren't romantic as a rule (!!) but the two of you fighting them off together side by side is pretty romantic - plus Shaun of the Dead was a RomZomCom ;)
The pirate idea is great too - you could half half a pirate ship poking out of the top of your cake (half sinking) and your pirate h2b holding you close to him cutlas in hand....... or not.
Loving your ideas :)

I told my h2b about your idea - he's into plane and tank modelling but I told him on no account were we having a Panzer diorama on our cake :)
We have a collection of robots so a couple of those would be in keeping with our 50's theme.

Cool idea.
Not telling my h2b, cos I'll end up with ww2 apg's or something obscure and napoleonic (yes, he wargames too).

Skipula - FiL2b actually has parrots, although I don't think they speak. Also we wouldn't want them at the wedding cos my mum's afraid of birds. Luckily Dave isn't into modern warfare much so no chance of tanks.
Though I won't mention the robot idea, he's very into giant anime-style robots and I wouldn't want one of his many gundam models emerging from my cake. He suggested gundams for centrepieces, but again I said they lacked romance. Well apart from that pink one decorated with hearts, but he doesn't have a model of that one for some reason.
Mucnhkin30 - Dave plays WoW with various friends. Not into it so much myself, it seems kind of addictive. :/) We did think of Shaun of the Dead, but it wasn't the zombies that provided the romance. Plus it just seems a little morbid and I've had nightmares about zombies but not pirates. Plus the pirate thing is a combination of our ideas, so it works. Although he's having trouble finding a miniature to be me.
tuppence - ahh so you know. Our spare room is a gaming/painting room which happens to have a bed in.
It's good to see that people like my ideas. I thought people here would appreciate it an dnot think we were crazy. It's also cool to hear about other people with gaming interests. It's the kind of thing you don't always realise about people when you meet them.

Yeah I find it a surprise when I find out that people who I never expected are into gaming. My h2b was really into warhammer growing up and he's the one who got me into WoW. We aren't freaky into it though as in we still have lives ;)
What other unusual ideas are you putting into your day? Apart from the top of the cake what kind of cake are you actually having?
I'm hungry so I'm thinking lots about food.... :)

H2b always points out that he's not hugely in WoW compared to other people. Occasionally it'll be hard to talk to him because he's playing but really he isn't too bad.
I want a sponge cake because I don't like fruit cake or chocolate cake, I find them too rich. Also because I'm a Coeliac the top layer will have to be gluten-free.
We reckon it'll need to feed about 90 people so it'll probably have to have at least 2 layers, but I don't think we'll do the business with the pillars in between. Also I think a square cake would be nice because I always have round ones and that'll give more room on top.
Otherwise I'm not sure really. Not sure where it's going to be made as i have the dietary requirement I might need a special baker. But it's ok we've got plenty of time to figure it out.

I want a lego bride and groom, but i've seen some other awesome ideas online. Someone had toy dinosaurs, one with a little veil and one with a bowtie. Someone else had a dalek and a cyberman and made them little wedding outfits. Pretty much any action figure can be customised. I would LOVE barbie and ken so much, but H2B prefers the lego idea. Plus we don't really look like this: http://www.mcsr.olemiss.edu/~laall/barb-ken.jpg

Netally I'm kinda hoping no one looks like that, because those people would be scary. I mean look at his teeth! Eeeek!
Lego is fun and I think you can customise lego people online, although I don't know how much that costs. I imagine that there are all sorts of toys and figures that could be used. Hopefully the people who make the generic little bride and groom will start thinking outside the box.
