My engagement ring is a 1.25ct white gold solitaire which very thin shoulders - it's very dainty and I love it, but no wedding rings will sit right with it! It's in a crown-style setting which is quite round, so the wedding rings don't sit flush and there's a huge gap. I don't want a shaped wedding band, as I know I won't always wear my engagement ring, so a shaped band would look a bit silly on it's own.

Luckily H2B is a jeweller, so we've decided to get a new setting for my engagement ring - it's still a white gold solitaire, but it has fourteen diamonds set in the shoulders, and the central diamond is set on four claws, a bit like a tiffany setting - when you look at it from the side, it's totally open so you can see the diamond, like it's hovering! H2B will just take the diamond out of my old ring and re-set it in the new one, and will use the gold from the old one to make his own wedding ring, so it won't be wasted!

It's also a 'wedding ring friendly' design, so it means I can have pretty much any one I want now. I'm only going for a very slim wedding band (2 or 3mm) as I have small fingers, but I don't know whether to go for a plain one, or one with diamonds in?

I have a similar problem with my engagement ring needing a a shaped wedding band....haven't found one I like yet!

The best thing is, the new setting is only costing us £250 including the little diamonds - just had a look online and people are selling the same ring for around £6,000 - yikes! Course it didn't cost H2B anywhere near that, but still makes me look at it with new found respect

Should I go for a plain band, or a diamond one?

It's gorgeous! You lucky thing! I would try the rings on with your engagement ring and see what looks best. A plain band might be better so that your engagement ring takes centre stage! That said, if you like diamonds and you won't always wear the engagement ring, then go for more sparkles!

Hmm, I'm torn with this one, diamonds are alway good but if you have a plain band it will make your e ring look even more bling if you know what I mean. I would say plain or perhaps one like this...

I prefer the layout of the diamonds in the yellow gold one but obviously you could have it in white gold instead

your rings are exactly like mine. My H2B did spend the ridiculous amount of money that you found on the internet on my engagement ring so when he found out he couldn't get a ring from the same place that would sit flush he was not at all happy.

Oh well, we have ordered the bands now so nothing can be done. Buggar.

Your ring is gorgeous, how lucky are you! I think either one would look nice, maybe a slightly plain band with just a couple of diamonds. Im going to have a problem too with the shape of my ring, dont know what ill do with wedding bands
