My chief BM took some photos of me in my Maggie Sortero dress which is made of taffeta. I was so excited, moreso because I bought the dress and had to postpone the wedding due to an unexpected arrival - beautiful girl. When my BM sent me photos the dress looks outrageouly shiny!! I am gutted! I felt so good when I tried it on but what if it looks cheap??? Can I justify buying a new dress? I just dont know what to do!! It would seem criminal to waste a dress!

Not so dream dress

I have just read your dilema and can completely relate to how your feeling as I went through the same thing this week! I too have bought a taffeta dress and worried about it's shininess making it look cheap or like a prom dress!
But when I've tried it in day light it looks perfect and then a bit of shininess for the night do will be an added extra! I'd suggest trying it on again in different lighting and getting a really good photo to keep looking back at if you have a worry again. I made the decision that losing my dress (perfect in every other way) over a little worry about the shininess wasn't worth it. Nobody will notice that over the other 'wow' parts of your dress. I hope this helps but at the end of the day you need to feel special. Good luck :)

I think you should get another picture of the dress with a different camera it may have been just a bad picture we aall have them!!!! If it didn't look to shiny up close then proffesional pictures will not make it look cheap.

is it possible that yor friend isnt a professional photographer, the camera wasn't the best and lighting was dodgey making it look bad when actually its the dress for you?

Could an overlay of sheer fabric not be applied over it so you can still see the fabric underneath but it will just not appear as shiney. You can get a dressmaker to do this meaning you dont have to get a new one or have a look on the reverse side if the fabric should be less shiney that way you could just get it turned inside out and switch ant beading over etc just depends if the whole dress is the problem or the bottom half!
