1. Don’t waste valuable beach time sweating under a hairdryer. Just spritz damp hair with Paul Labrecque Volume Root Lifting Spray, £16 (beautyexpert.co.uk), and let it dry naturally, scrunching in your hand from time to time. You’ll get a sexy, tousled texture that looks much more touchable than a perfect blow-dry.
2. Don’t wait until you’re on the beach before applying your sunscreen – put it on at least 20 minutes before sun exposure so it can absorb properly and give you the full protection. And don’t be tempted to use less just because you want a tan – sunburn is never sexy!
3. There’s nothing worse than applying warm, sticky sunscreen. Keep your cool by spritzing on Boots Soltan Cooling Spray SPF 25, £12.99, instead – it’s one of the best products I’ve tried all year.
4. If you can’t face going completely make-up free, just slick on a touch of waterproof eyeliner, mascara and a lip stain. These won’t smudge in the heat but they’ll give your features definition in your holiday snaps.
5. Hair needs sun protection just as much as your skin. If sunhats aren’t your thing, at least spray on a good UV shield like Kérastase Micro Voile Protecteur, £16.50.
6. Bright colour looks fabulous on tanned feet. I’ve been addicted to Essie Nail Polish in Secret Stash, £8, this summer. (nailsbymail.co.uk)
7. Perfumes with alcohol in can irritate your skin if you wear them in the sun. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Summer Limited Edition, £34.50, is alcohol-free so it’s perfect for sensitive types.
8. Always rinse your hair as soon as you get out of the sea as the salt is really drying and will leave hair dull and brittle.
9. Wet your hair with fresh water before you take a dip in the sea or pool. This will minimise the amount of salt and chlorine absorbed by your hair and cause less damage to the condition and colour.
10. After a day in the sun, apply Lancaster Tan Maximiser, £21, all over your body. This brilliant lotion makes your tan more intense and helps it last longer.
