Themes

A firm favourite in the States, themed showers – most notably bathroom, kitchen and lingerie themed gatherings – are a relatively new phenomenon in the UK. Nevertheless, British bride-to-be’s can take inspiration from their American counterparts and incorporate these themes into their shower:

Traditional themes:

Choosing a bathroom or kitchen inspired shower is always a great place to start as guests can incorporate games and gifts to suit this theme. For example, if you decide upon a kitchen theme then it would be a great idea to encourage guests to bring their favourite recipe with them. You could then collate these recipes and create your very own recipe book.

Bathroom theme:

Alternatively, why not choose a bathroom theme and treat guests to a mini spa treatment? Gift ideas for a bathroom inspired party could include a spa voucher or a miniature Jo Malone candle (£108 for 12)

Honeymoon theme:

Depending on where you are honeymooning, it may be a nice idea to build your shower around your honeymoon destination. Jetting off to Mexico? Then, why not make some mini fajitas or burritos? Or maybe you will be vacationing in Hawaii, in which case floral headwear is an absolute must.

Wine tasting:

If you are looking for something a little different then a wine tasting session is definitely worth considering. To make the party extra special, slip a So Pretty Miniature Purse Bottle Stopper (£6.95 for 4 from thebridalgiftbox.co.uk) into guests goodie bags and sit back and await the compliments.

Great Gatsby style:

Why not copy Kate Moss and have a 1920’s themed gathering? Make like Daisy Buchanan in a flapper dress and jeweled headwear. Alternatively, keep details simple with a selection of jazz sounds and delicate nibbles.

Garden tea party:

If your ladies like to lunch then an elegant tea party is an excellent idea. The delicate tea sets from Bridal Gift Box would make excellent party favours. Alternatively, draw inspiration from your chosen wedding flowers and have a flower themed party, complete with calla lily favours. Click here.

Games

1. Bride trivia: Make up trivia cards beforehand with questions about the bride – “what was her nickname in school?” etc and read the cards out to guests. The guest that answers the most questions correctly wins a prize.

2. Who am I? Write the names of famous personalities on index cards. Attach a card to each guest’s back as she arrives but make sure that she doesn’t know whose name is attached to her back. To find out, she must ask the other guests for clues. The first person to identify the correct name is the winner.

3. True lies: One person claims to have done something outrageous and anyone else who’s done that thing tosses a penny or candy favor. The person with the most items left wins the game.

4. Bridal pictionary: Write down the names of things associated with weddings and brides on slips of paper. Put the slips into a bag and divide all of the guests into two teams. One person from each team gets a chance to draw the chosen word and the team must guess what is being drawn in one minute. If the team drawing doesn't guess the word, the other team gets one minute to guess it. As they guess correctly, each team gets a point. The team with the most correct guesses wins a prize.
