Each week radio DJ Laura Pittson opens up her wedding planning diary...
Hi everyone!
Well it's five weeks to go, and this week has been a flurry of RSVP openings, the happy and the sad. If you think that RSVPs aren’t worth doing, in my opinion, you’re very wrong! In what is a very chaotic time full of unexpected happenings, there’s something very comforting about friends and family writing to tell you that they will be joining you on your happy day.
Inevitably though, I’ve had some disappointing replies. Many of my cousins from the States are unable to come due to various reasons and I will miss them greatly. Again from overseas, one of my oldest and dearest friends, Brigitte, from Paris, is unable to attend. A little further south, but still in France, my beautiful friend Nastasya has had to decline ...due to her own wedding taking place - we jinxed each other with the date! They say great minds think alike, but I’m still upset, and will miss all of them.
As the date draws nearer, I can feel emotions rising and I was very comforted by a visit from my cousin Emma this week. We were born two months apart, and have shared everything over the years. A glass of wine, and staying on maternity watch for our cat (her kittens are due any minute), helped take our minds off weddings for an evening.
I haven’t told my fiancé, but I’ve already dreamt that I’ve forgotten to order the flowers AND that we get up the aisle and he hasn’t got the ring… All that and I’ve still got five weeks to go! Thank goodness for the gym!
Another big help has been our wedding classes. I’ve got to admit, we REALLY didn’t want to go! However, the classes (organised by the church) have been a source of great amusement, and have actually got us thinking about our relationship in a deeper way. We’ve also met some great friends, which again just helps make the whole thing go along with a bit of swish!
And as if by magic I’m finishing this column with the bottom of my wedding day outfit - the shoes. I’m not marrying the tallest of men, in fact quite the opposite. The love of my life is more Marc Anthony than Jamie Theakston and although we’re about the same height it means that once I have the tiara veil AND shoes on, I will tower over him.
At first I thought I’d go for the ballet pump shoe, but Gisele, the lady in Airs & Graces Bridal Shop advised me against it, as she said, ballet pumps don’t lend themselves to glamourous walking and she’s probably right. Then I found a bargain – unworn - pair inOxfam! I was delighted, but on trying them next to my man (blindfolded of course) they were still too high. So, finally it was to the designer Pink. I picked the lowest heel they have and they are perfect.
Now I have a selection of shoes, and a pair of comfy pumps that’ll be perfect for leaving under the top table for when the feet start aching. As we all know, a girl can NEVER have enough shoes, and at least now I can go for my wedding dress fitting absolutely SURE that Cinderella has the right slipper.
Next week I’ll be hopefully showing you my pageboy kilts, and it’s time for another measure up…will I have dropped a dress size? I hope so.
