Each week, radio DJ Laura Pittson opens up her wedding planning diary...
Hi everyone!
With only four weeks to go on Sunday I’m having kittens! In fact I’m not the only one, because on Friday morning my cat curled up in her basket and gave birth to five little kittens! Not exactly what the doctor ordered for a frantic bride-to-be, however, they’re proving to be a welcome distraction from spending the whole time on the phone with photographers, florists and caterers!
Another little package arrived this week - the kilts for the pageboys. My mother was a Nicholson, and I love Scottish dancing so I thought it'd be lovely to have kilts made in the Nicholson tartan. I scanned the net, and found a company called Scotweb. You can order online with them, but I decided to go down the good old fashioned phone route, armed with all the boys' measurements, I came away with three kilts ordered, complete with socks and sporrans.
I dealt with a lovely lady called Judy with a beautiful melodious Scottish accent, who took genuine interest in my wedding. In fact, I found out that Judy is getting married too, so we exchanged quite a few notes!
The kilts have their pleats tacked together when posted and I won’t undo them until the big day, but here's a photo of William, my nephew and page boy-to-be, modelling it for us.....I think he looks scrumptious! I’m still deliberating whether or not to have the Argyll jacket and waistcoat (which I will hire), but I’m having a little trouble finding them at a competitive rate.
We’re also still working on the shoes. I managed to find a little pair of buckle shoes in the bridal shop Airs & Graces in Berkhamsted, but for the bigger boys I’ve bought them slip ons and I’m going to attempt to find some buckles and attach them myself....I’ll let you know how I get on!
The other thing that has been dominating my week this week is the Order of Service. Let no one tell you that this doesn’t take very long. I’ve done so many drafts it’s unbelievable, AND I’m still not finished. Just when I thought the whole service was organised, my soloist Anne Marie Hetherington (a very old family friend and fabulous singer) has had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
Thankfully we hadn’t yet gone to print (only due to the fact that I’ve taken so long about deciding which speeches go where), but I’ve been warned to get on with it, so once I’ve found a singer, I’ll be going to the printer like a bat out of hell.
My personal training with Esporta continues, and I’m certainly feeling much fitter....although I’ve been plagued with a bug and a coldsore this week (I’m just grateful it's not nearer the date or I would be panicking). I’ve certainly lost more weight according to my home scales, but of course the proof will be in the pudding next week when Tafara gets the professional scales and tape measure out.
I’ll also be sharing my search for a photographer with you, and a few tips about what I’ve learnt to ask for. Finally, tiara lovers, there'll be special news and a very happy story about two tiaras for you....join me next week.
