2 weeks to go...

Well, it’s amazing that I can actually write this blog this week, as I seem to have been surgically attached to the telephone for days!  Beware my lovely brides, this is the time that the annoying people start ringing to ask all sorts of questions about the wedding that you don’t necessarily know the answers to.

I’ve decided that, when it’s one week to go, I shall have to leave a recorded message on my voicemail, telling them to email or text me with the issue, as it’s taking me an age to listen back to the messages and then call them to give the answer.  Of course this is one of the problems with having a wedding at home.  I’m guessing in other circumstances people would ring the venue, but there we are, thank goodness for call screening!

Glorious weather is inspiring a glorious mood having said all that, and we’ve had great fun this week with arranging our first dance.  We’ve chosen the song “For Once In My Life” sung by Frank Sinatra, and I’m delighted with the decision.  The song that we’ve always classed as “our song” is actually The Travelling Wilberries, and Handle Me With Care, but after playing it time and again we felt it didn’t quite capture the mood of the day.

Secretly I was quite worried about what we were going to have as I didn’t want to choose just any old thing, but the inspiration came to us BANG when we weren’t expecting it.  On a Valentines trip to see Strictly Come Dancing at the 02, Matt & Flavia danced their American Smooth, and it hit us like a bolt.  Actually we had both seen that dance before on TV, but being there with the atmosphere, and hearing the band playing with heart and soul, made us turn to each other and say “that is it”, we didn’t need to explain, we knew what we were talking about.

So of course the next problem was, what were we going to do with it?  Firstly, as we’re having a swing band at the wedding (The Kevin Obrien Band...who came highly recommended), we decided to go live so to speak.  Secondly we pondered over whether or not to prepare something.

I was a professional dancer for years (although I didn’t do many shows in a wedding dress!) but Mark has no dance experience, and I certainly didn’t want to add any more stress to his day by giving him a full on dance routine.  So I contacted two very good friends of mine Kate & Chadd Garvie.  They’ve been professional dancers for years (in fact they’re always treading the boards in the West End), and they offered to just “set “the dance.  This means basically we prepare the coming on, and coming off the stage, a few simple steps in the middle and how we’re going to hold each other.  We hired the local Bourne End Village Hall, fired up the CD and we were away!

Actually it was great fun, and we remembered what this marriage stuff is all about....just having fun together.  Hopefully we can cling to that thought over the next 2 weeks which I keep getting told are going to be the most stressful.  I have a plan though.  Next week I will embark on all sorts of beauty regimes, and of course I have my hen weekend coming up.....I can ‘t wait!
