Diary of a DJ - only a few days to go!

  • It's the week before radio DJ Laura Pittson's big day...

Hi everyone

Well, how did that happen?  As I approach my wedding day, I somehow can’t believe it's really THIS Sunday!  This week has been full of ups and downs.  Tears, laughter, disagreements and general wedding fatigue have been taking their toll.  Just the constant need to make so many decisions is wearing when you have to go through the channels of family and make sure that you haven’t upset anyone.

Having a wedding reception at home is a wonderful thing, but there are downsides.  The main one being that every decision is really left down to you, and that can be very tiring when, deep down you really want to be thinking about your own skin, hair, and general girl issues, such as looking fantastic on the day!

So with all that stress in hand, the best thing of all was to throw a hen party with a bit of a difference.  That difference was that none of us had to do anything!  Perhaps it’s something that comes with being a bride in her 30s, but I’ve always had a bit of a fear of hen nights.  Sometimes they work, but often you find yourself with a group of girls, none of whom you actually know, being forced to run around and look as if you’re having fun.

Recently I went to a hen night sleepover and I decided that this was actually the best hen night I’ve ever been on.  I think with the busy lives we lead now, and the careers we have to manage (not to mention, in my case, stepchildren, and endless pets), it’s quite a relief to get your jim jams on with a few of your best friends, and hit the wine!

Saturday night we did exactly that.  I invited the four girls that I met on my very first dancing job in Italy (I used to be a professional dancer) round to my house.  At the time, it was my first ever experience of living away from home, and these girls shared everything with me.  We didn’t argue once when we worked and lived together for nine months, and seeing them all in the same room on my hen night without partners, children and distractions, was absolute heaven!

After a lovely lie-in on the Sunday morning, we headed off for a hen day pamper package (to expel some of the toxins we’d drunk the night before!) at Gorgeous Beauty Spa in Berkhamsted.  For four delicious hours we moved from room to room being pampered, preened and fed on sumptuous fresh fruit, patisserie, herbal teas and good old-fashioned coffee.  Of course we managed to squeeze in a few more conversations too as girls always can.  When we all kissed goodbye on Sunday afternoon, I felt ready to take on the world... or at least a new husband!

Another highlight of the week had to be our wedding rehearsal.  At our dream church in Lambourne, on the top of a hill, Mark and I went through our marriage vows.  Of course I had tears streaming down my face, but they were happy tears.  I’m hoping, having been through all that once I won’t cry on the day, but I’ve got the waterproof mascara just in case.

So here I close.  Please wish me luck, I’ll be back soon to tell you the details of the wedding and I’ll be sharing all my photos.  Plus I’ll be able to let you know all about the fabulous First Night we have booked in The Grove in Watford, ....I can’t wait!

As always,  you can check out my blog here.

Love Laura x
