  • Bridal bronzing calls for a light touch – less is always more in the tanning stakes. Take a tip from make-up artist Chase Aston for a top-to-toe sun-kissed glow

The man
Chase Aston (right) has this advice for brides-to-be. “Go for polished prettiness. Stick to sheer textures and featherlight formulas and never be tempted to try a whole new look or colour palette for your big day.”

Pure porcelain
Face: “Choose caramel shades or even pink-based bronzers to help warm up skin tones.” Try Sothys Velvet Bronzing Powder in Intense, £24.20.
Tip: Limit tan to areas where the sun would naturally strike your face and apply bronzing products sparingly. Try Mac Powder Blush in Trace Gold, £13.
Body: “Opt for the new generation of fake tans that are part-moisturiser, part-fake tan and can be built up for a natural finish.” Try Clarins Radiance-Plus Self Tanning Body Lotion, £24.50.

Warm olive
Face: “Olive and darker skins benefit from plenty of highlighting to stop them looking too matt. Choose a red-based bronzer or stick to deep true bronzes with plenty of shimmer.” Try Lancome Blush Focus in Chocolate Chip, £13.50 or Iman Bronzing Powder, £19.95.
Tip: Go for matt textures and limit shine by applying a foundation base, followed by a fine veil of translucent powder and a topcoat of bronzer.
Body: For naturally tanned skins that can take a deeper hue, be sure to double-dose and apply a second coat of tanning cream or spray. Try Sisley Soleil San Soleil Spray, £46.

Rich honey
Face:  “Pep up a dull complexion with Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Brunette, £25.50.  Apply all over and use Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Apricot to contour temples and cheekbones.”
Body: “St Tropez Autobronzant Lotion, from £26.50, is still the celebrities’ tan of choice. Once you’ve cracked the application process, don’t rub in. Simply smooth over the skin’s surface.”
Tip: For an evening wedding, try St Tropez Air Shimmer Tan, from £35. Best left to the professionals for a streak-free finish, the latest version comes flecked with iridescent particles that catch the light.

English rose
Face: “Try a soft pinky-peach tone such as Sisley Sun Glow Pressed Powder, £41. Swirl together with the yellow-based bronzer, dusting over the face to brighten skin tone.”
Body: “For a flattering finish try Tantowel Self Tan Towelettes, £1.49 each (available from Boots), which work with your natural colouring to develop a specific skin tone.”
Tip: Prep skin with a thin layer of oil-free moisturiser – a simple cocoa butter or aloe vera gel that won’t affect the tanning agent but will help dilute the colour.
