  • Great hair will make you feel fabulous on your big day, so follow Hersheson salon manager George Northwood's advice...

The most important thing is to a good relationship with your hairdresser and colourist. Don't chop and change - they need to really get to know you and your hair so they can advise on any changes. Make sure they're the ones to do your updo hair trial and ideally style your hair on the big day. Being confident in your hairdresser will make you feel confident about your hair. So try and think about your hair as soon as you get engaged and compile a scrap book of styles you like!

To achieve shinny glossy hair, go for regular trims every 8/10 weeks or longer if your hair isn't prone to split ends, and treat your hair to hair treatments at each salon visit in the six months up to your big day.

If you colour your hair, don't try anything radically different as it can take six months to grow out in order to correct terrible colour accidents! Have your final hair colour two weeks before to allow it settle for the wedding.

To add body to limp, flat hair use a hair thickening mousse like L'Oreal's volume mousse and opt for an up do as you can then backcomb hair and pile it up, or even add a few hair pieces.

When you go for your updo hair trial, make sure it's the morning so you know how it will last and can then get your hairdresser to tweak out any concerns before the big day.

For extra shine on the big day use L'Oreal tecni art crystal gloss shine serum which is a very light spray to add to the finished 'do. Elnett hairspray is also really lightweight and non sticky and will help keep hairdos in place without looking set.

If you're happy with your shampoo and conditioner don't change it - hair gets used to products and may react differently, so keep your hair in a routine!
