  • Organic beauty products may be just what you need in the run-up to your wedding day

Naturally gorgeous

With no synthetic chemicals (or only very tiny amounts), organic beauty products are great for sensitive or allergic skins. With debate raging as to how much of a product’s ingredients are absorbed into your bloodstream (somewhere between 2 and 60%) – and some products containing over 100 different ingredients – it may be more sensible to play it safe.

Better for brides

Organic products can give faster – and better – results because of a higher concentration of active ingredients and less of the inactive stuff that just makes a product look, smell and feel nice. Perfect for brides in the run up to the wedding. You may need to adjust your expectations though. Organic shampoo, for example, won’t lather as well as one with chemical froth. Organic preservatives also mean a shorter shelf life.

Only the best

Lack of certification for organic beauty products means you need to look out for the symbol of recognised regulatory bodies, like the Soil Association, on packaging to know it’s the real Mccoy.  To carry the Soil Association’s  ‘made with organic ingredients label’, a product must contain 95% organic ingredients, with the other 5% natural and only used if no organic alternatives are available.

Five fab ranges

1. The Organic Pharmacy range – Madonna and Kylie are big fans.

Try: Jasmine High Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner, £18.95 each, for shiny but unstripped hair.

2. Spiezia Organics – the only UK beauty range with some products certified 100% organic.

Try: 100% Organic Lemon and Marigold Body Scrub, £35, to get rid of bumps on your arms.

3. ila – Nearly 100% organic.

Try: Face Oil for Glowing Radiance, £55, for an enviable bridal bloom

4. Neal’s Yard Remedies’ organic range – if it works for Mischa Barton…

Try: White Tea Facial Mist, £8, on-the-day skin refreshment

5. Ilsci – not just for off-the-shelf products but organic salon facials, too.

Try: Sour Cherry Gel Mask, £25, ultra-gentle for risk-free night before treatments.
